Art Works Brings Back Summer Camp!

Art Works and RVA Thriving Artists bring you the triumphant return of their Summer Art Camps for students. We have six different camp sessions all covering an array of skills. Whether you have an aspiring jewelry maker or the next Picasso in your home, we have a camp session to ignite their imagination! Camps run Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-12:00pm and are led by professional working artists with extensive teaching experience. Topics include: felting, jewelry making, basic art skills, clay, and printmaking. Art Works has been a pillar of the Richmond art community for over 20 years and RVA Thriving Artists is incredibly excited to pick up their Summer Art Camps! Summer Camp Schedule

June 17th-20th: Printmaking with Amelia Rafle

There are endless possibilities in the world of printmaking! Printmaking supports fine motor skills and allows children to explore their creativity! Your child will learn basic printmaking skills starting with using natural materials to make color-rubbing collages.Then throughout the week they will move on to monoprinting and basic relief print skills using handmade collagraphs.

June 24th-27th: Just Desserts, sculpture treats with Sussanah Raine

No this isn’t a baking class! We are exploring the possibilities of sculpture through one of the best treats of the day, DESSERT! Students will learn the basics of design and sculpture by making some yummy treats that you will almost want to eat except they last forever!

July 15th-18th: Wet Felting Basics with Chris Schoen

In this week-long class learn the basics of wet-felting–the materials and processes needed to make cool felted shapes. Your child will incorporate drawing or writing as brainstorms and icebreakers to help them start conversations around color palettes, shapes, and other design choices. Students will be making coasters, wall decor, clothing patches, bags, pouches and collage.

July 22nd-25th: The Wonderful World of Art with Amber Bounds

Sometimes the possibilities for creative expression can be OVERWHELMING. In this camp we are gonna give a little taste of everything, from tye dye to weaving, to painting with color bubbles! One of the techniques we are covering is sure to spark the interest of students and give them a great start down the path of creativity! This class is all about the experience!

August 5th-8th: Jewelry Making

Tiffany’s there is a new jeweler in town! Your child can begin to learn how to express themselves by making their very own custom jewelry! Clay beads, alphabet beads, paper beads oh my! Throughout the camp we will give your student every opportunity we have to explore color, shape, and design skills.

August 12th-15th: Recycled Experimental art book

Experimentation is an incredibly important part of the artistic process! In this camp we are starting the creative process with making the paper students will use to create on. Then we will explore different techniques of experimental art. At the end of the Camp your student will have their very own book they can bring home to mark the step in their artistic journey!”
