Where Can You Get Wet?

The Summer Heat is Here! Wondering where to take your kids to keep cool?  Here are some fun ideas for where to get wet.  Several options are free, others require an admission fee.   Wherever you go – don’t forget suits, towels, swim diapers, sunscreen, and protection for little feet.

Stony Point Fashion Park Pop Jets

What a great way to cool off!  The Pop Jet Fountain runs daily, Monday – Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm and Sunday, 12 – 6 pm.

  • Shoes must be worn at all times
  • Playing in the pop jet fountain is limited to children under 42 inches tall
  • No running or horseplay
  • Adult swim wear is not permitted
  • Clothing and diapers are to be changed in the restroom only
  • No outside food or drink is allowed
  • No dogs in the fountain
  • Children must be under adult supervision at all times
  • No sunbathing or picnicking

Twin Hickory Park Sprayground

A small, whimsical, zero-depth water play feature intended for children 12 or under with adult supervision.  The park also offers Park features include walking trails, open play areas, multi-purpose field, landscaping, irrigation, a picnic shelter with restrooms, a playground for ages 2-5 and one for ages 6-12.

Short Pump Park Spray Fountains

This park includes a dog park, spray fountains, athletic fields, play equipment, picnic facilities, and a restored 1902 two-room schoolhouse.  

Dunncroft/Castle Point Park Spray Park

Located at the entrance to Hungary Creek Middle School, this park features trails, picnic area and shelter, play area and equipment, a spray park, and a nine-hole disc golf course.

Eastern Henrico Recreation Center

The Eastern Henrico Recreation Center is a beautiful 25,773 square foot building with a variety of programming spaces and rooms. You will find a spacious ballroom for private events, a full-sized gymnasium, a classroom, playground with splash pad, and a fitness area.

Pocahontas State Park

Pocahontas State Park – Pool and Aquatic Center

Pocahontas State Park is part of the Virginia State Park network.  The Pool and Aquatic Center is open seasonally with several different pools available to visitors.  There is a 16” baby pool as well as a playground pool with slides, water shoots, spray guns, tunnels, and other contraptions.  There are even adult slides.  The pool can become very crowded on weekends during the summer months so go early.  Pocahontas State Park also offers two small lakes for for kayak, paddle boat, and canoe rentals.

Cobblestones Park is Virginia’s largest concrete swimming pool- 38,000 square feet!   The park has water slides of all sizes, a beach area with 20 ft umbrellas, volleyball and basketball courts and softball fields.  There are aquacycles available on the 7 acre lake and a full service kitchen.  You can also bring your own meals, although no glass or alcohol is permitted.  Swimsuits are required.

Children can bring their bathing suits to play with CMoR’s dancing water feature! Many skills can be gained and discoveries made while playing in an interactive water area. The gross motor skills may be the most visible, and range from improving balance to large muscle practice, such as jumping, skipping, and hopping in and around the water jets. Emerging science skills of size, shape and spatial arrangement blend seamlessly with early math concepts such as measurement and quantity.
