Here’s a new take on a Sugar Cookie recipe that’s quick, easy, and delicious! The confectioner’s sugar and cream of tartar make cookies lighter. Let the kids cut out shapes, sprinkle colored sugar, and package baked cookies for gifts.
This is a fun activity for after school or while enjoying a fun Christmas movie or music.
Easy Sugar Cookies
- 3/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 cups flour
Beat butter, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer until light and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add flour slowly and mix on low speed until smooth. Refrigerate for about 1-2 hours. Place chilled dough on floured surface and roll to about 1/8 inch thick.
Shape and bake for about 7-10 minutes on 350 degrees – or until lightly browned around the edges.
Other options:
- Add food coloring to sections of dough before shaping or cutting to create colorful sugar cookies.
- Sprinkle cookies with colored sugar before baking.
- Sprinkle cookie dough with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar before baking.
- Use tubes of icing and gel to decorate cookies.
- Make a small hole in top of cookie dough with end of a small wooden spoon before cooking and string as an ornament after baking.
