The Henrico County Public Library, in partnership with Henrico County Public Schools and the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, is proud to host New York Times bestselling author, Sy Montgomery, on Wednesday, April 5, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Glen Allen High School, 10700 Staples Mill Road, Glen Allen, 23060, as part of its ninth annual ALL HENRICO READS program. Her book, The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness, the featured title, will be available for sale, as well as some of her other novels. She will autograph books following the program.
Author Sy Montgomery described by the Boston Globe as, “part Emily Dickinson, part Indiana Jones,” has been chased by an angry silverback gorilla in Zaire and swum with piranhas and pink dolphins in the Amazon. Sy’s 20 books for both adults and children have garnered many honors. She is a 1979 graduate of Syracuse University, with a triple major with dual degrees in Magazine Journalism, French Language and Literature, and Psychology.
The Soul of an Octopus was a 2015 Finalist for the National Book Awards and was described by the Daily Beast as a “fascinating … touching … informative … entertaining” book which explores the emotional and physical world of the octopus—a surprisingly complex, intelligent, and spirited creature—and the remarkable connections it makes with humans. By turns funny, entertaining, touching, and profound, The Soul of an Octopus reveals what octopuses can teach us about the meeting of two very different minds.
All Henrico Reads is a community reading program that provides an opportunity for individuals to come together through a shared reading experience and discussion.
