The Healthy Kids Running Series

healthy kids runningThe Healthy Kids Running Series is a five week running program in the spring and fall for kids from Pre-K to 8th grade. Each Race Series takes place once a week and offers age appropriate running events including the 50 yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the one mile run. Kids compete each week of the Series for a chance to earn points and at the end of the Series the top boy and girl with the most points in their respective age division receive a trophy. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you run because all participants receive a medal and gift bag for their achievements courtesy of the sponsors!  A $35 registration fee covers the entire five (5) weeks of the series.

Here are the three series locations in RVA with varied dates of runs on Sundays this fall:

  • Richmond – Godwin High School, 2101 Pump Road, Richmond, VA US 23238
  • Chesterfield – Alberta Smith Elementary, 13200 Bailey Bridge Rd, Midlothian, VA US 23112
  • Mechanicsville – Pole Green Park, 8996 Pole Green Park Lane, Mechanicsville, VA US 23116

 

The 7th Annual Short Pump Milekids racing

Short Pump Town Center

NOVA of Virginia Aquatics presents the 2015 C&F Bank/Lite 98 Short Pump Mile & Short Pump Express Fun Run – is Richmond’s largest timed youth road race. The race is held at Short Pump Town Center in front of American Family Fitness, with the first heat starting at 7:45 a.m. All participants will receive a race T-shirt, a medal and plenty of refreshments! Awards will be given to age group and overall winners. The Short Pump Express, a 400 meter Fun Run (non-timed), is offered to children age 5 & younger who aren’t quite up to tackling the mile. Proceeds from the race benefit NOVA’s community outreach programs.  St. Mary’s for Kids, will award the top five schools with the most participants cash totaling $2000 to be used for their physical education programs – get your school to participate in the School Participation Competition!

Online registration for 2015 is open until 10am on September 28th.
Online registration fees $15.00 per child / $13.00 for each child in family of 3 or more.

VCU Broad Street MileVCU Broad Street Mile Logo

Broad Street between Belvidere Street and Hermitage Road

The VCU Broad Street Mile combines a street festival with a 5K Run and series of one-mile fun runs on the city’s major thoroughfare, Broad Street. In addition to providing a fun, festive event, the VCU Broad Street Mile provides a turnkey fundraising opportunity for local community organizations. This year’s 5K route explores its way through the VCU Campus and the festival thrives with performances from local community organizations and bands.
This years themed One Mile Fun Runs include: The Doggy Dash, Kids Mile, Senior Mile, No Limits Mile and Spirit Mile.

The Kids Mile features a fun run with Rodney the Ram and area mascots in support of children’s charities. (Start time: 11:20 AM)

The FREE festival will feature live music, food trucks, local vendors, kids activities and more. People are encouraged to come enjoy the festival even if you are not participating in one of the run/walks.
