Monday, August 31st

Monday Fun at the Children’s Museum.  Magical Mondays at 11am at Central – Megacraft Mondays at 11:30am in Chesterfield – Storytime Mondays at 11am in Fredericksburg.  Free with museum admission.

Itsy Bitsy Artists. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  More process than product, your art experience will be loads of fun and sometimes a little messy. Add some color to the world each Monday! FREE with admission.

Tuesday, September 1st

Kid’s Club.  9:30am-10:30am.  Chesterfield Towne Center Food Court.  Entertainment, giveaways and FUN!  Free.

Time to Sing. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  You and your little ones will enjoy singing, dancing, and making music together. Kids will use simple instruments and movements to learn new songs as well as sing along with their favorites. FREE with admission.

Weekly Storytime.  11am.  Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Mall.  Kids can enjoy some of their favorite books read aloud.

Toddler Music & Movement Free Preview.  11:00-11:40am.   Melody Magic Music Studio, 3041 Lauderdale Drive.  A FREE preview for kids ages 2-3 to see what music classes at Melody Magic Music Studio are all about! They will sing, dance, laugh, and play… and learn along the way!  Free event, but advance registration is required at www.melodymagicmusic.com. Space is limited.

Preschool Music & Piano Free Preview.  12:30-1:15pm.   Melody Magic Music Studio, 3041 Lauderdale Drive.  A FREE preview for kids ages 3-5 to see what music classes at Melody Magic Music Studio are all about! They will sing, dance, laugh, and play… and learn along the way! Preschoolers will get a sneak-peek at both our Kindermusik classes and Little Mozart Piano classes.  Free event, but advance registration is required at www.melodymagicmusic.com. Space is limited.

Family Jump Night.  6pm-8pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  Come play on the giant, soft, fun-filled interactive inflatables during Family Jump Time, then enjoy a pizza dinner together! Pizzas and 2-liter drinks can be ordered at check-in, and food will be available later in the playtime. Check the calendar for any schedule changes. Fee.

Foster Parent Orientation. 6pm-7pm. Virginia Baptist Resource Center, 2828 Emerywood Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294. Could you help serve children in need of a loving and caring home? Move with Me. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  Clap your hands, stomp your feet, move your bodies to the beat! Miss Sarah Ruppel, of the Richmond Ballet, leads a creative and energetic movement time for your little dancers every Wednesday at 10. Free with admission.

Story Time.  11am.  bbgb tales for kids, 3003 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221.  A local children’s bookstore in Carytown with story time every Wednesday at 11am.

Thursday, September 3rd

Fit Tots. 10am.   Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  It’s never too early to instill the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles! Participants will be lead through various activities that help develop flexibility and hand-eye coordination.  Free with admission.

Friday, September 4th

Storytime. 10am. Cartwheels & Coffee, Carytown.  Sponsored by bbgb tales for kids and lead by Miss Hannah, story time will take you to far away lands, introduce you to new friends with all sorts of interesting creatures, and allow you to discover a world of imagination inside your favorite books!   Free with admission.

First Friday Samplers.  5:30pm-9pm.  Visual Arts Center of Richmond.  A fun, creative way to spend your Friday night.  Try your hand at different art samplers.  Budget and kid-friendly, but some  minimum age requirements.  Registration begins at 5:00 pm. Classes run from 6:00-9:00 pm. Class prices range from $5-$20.

Special Night for Special Needs.  5:30pm-7:30pm.  Children’s Museum – Short Pump.  Special Night for Special Needs is an evening especially for the families of children with special needs age 10 and under.  Visitors enjoy all the museum has to offer and benefit from the availability of adapted materials, special activities, a cool-down space and reduced number of visitors.  Free.

Kid’s Fun Night.  6pm-8pm.  All Fired Up, Short Pump & Midlothian.  On the first Friday of each month, All Fired Up is hosting Kids’ Fun Night! Drop the kids (ages 6 to 12) off between 6 to 8pm for a fun-night of pottery painting. Enjoy your time while letting your kids have a fun night out on their own at All Fired Up!   The cost is $25 per child and is for ages 6 and up. Reservations are required and space is limited.  Fee.

Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm-10:30pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  The kids will be happy with an evening of jumping, games, dinner and a movie! 4-12 years old.  Fee.

Hairspray (PG).  The Henrico Theatre. Show timesFri, Sep 4 at 7pm and Sat, Sep 5 at 2 & 7pm.  Tickets are only $1 per person and can be purchased at the door.

Saturday, September 5th

Loop Hike.   9am-12pm.  Reedy Creek Visitors Center, 4301 Riverside Drive, Richmond Virginia 23219.  Explore the James River Park on foot in all weather. In addition to hiking, play games and learn about the ecology and history surrounding us. Please bring water, snacks, sturdy shoes, and whatever else you need to stay comfortable outside in the elements. This vigorous loop hike that will give you a significant taste of our trails system. We’ll hike the Buttermilk, Forest Hill, North Bank, and Belle Isle trails.   Please register for this event HERE. If you have trouble registering, please come anyway! They can get you set up when you get to the park. All September events are free.

Learn to Build a Football Toss Game – Kids Workshop.  9am-Noon. Local Home Depot Stores. FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered at all Home Depot stores. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement. Register online.  Free.

Stories at the Museum.  11am.  Virginia Historical Society.  Special educator-led readings of children’s history books.  Free and open to all ages.

Flying Squirrels Game.  6:05pm.  The Diamond.  Fee.

Sunday, September 6th

Open Studio Sundays.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Go by the studios anytime between Noon and 4 pm to enjoy “make-it, take-it” art activities inspired by objects from the VMFA collection. A new art project offered every month, with assistance from VMFA volunteers! (For groups of eight or more children, please email megan.liles@vmfa.museum.)  Free, no registration required.

2015 Summer “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Reenactment Series.  1:15pm – 2:30pm.  Historic St. John’s Church.  1:15 p.m. Doors open, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, 1:30 p.m. Music program, 1:45 p.m. Reenactment begins Reenactment begins (no admittance after program begins or when church is at capacity).  This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5.00. Reservations are available for groups of ten or more for fee of $5 per person, up to 100 reserved seats. Seating is first come, first served. Seat saving will not be permitted. The entire party must be present before seating will take place.  No admittance after the reenactment begins.  This reenactment is not recommended for children under the age of 6. We ask that parents escort restless little delegates outside so that the audience is not disturbed. Purchase tickets at https://www.brownpapertickets.com.  Street parking is available.
