Join Power UP! for a Pop Jet Party! 9:30am-11:30am. Stony Point Fashion Park. Play in the Pop Jet Fountains to keep cool while having fun in the sun with Power UP! music, games and dancing! Free.

Free Kids Summer Film Series at Bow Tie Cinemas. 10am. Movieland at Boulevard Square, Richmond.  This week – Epic. First-come, first-seated.   Free.

Time to Sing. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  You and your little ones will enjoy singing, dancing, and making music together. Kids will use simple instruments and movements to learn new songs as well as sing along with their favorites. FREE with admission.

Third Tuesdays with The Story Lady.  11am.  Barnes and Noble-Libbie Place.  After a summer break, children’s storyteller, Ali Pfautz, The Story Lady, will be back telling tales at Barnes & Noble-Libbie Place for Third Tuesdays. Join her at 11am on August 18th for stories, songs, and a peek at her newest book, SMILES & WIGGLES: A YEAR OF IMAGINATIVE FUN.

Weekly Storytime.  11am.  Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Mall.  Kids can enjoy some of their favorite books read aloud.

Family Jump Night.  6pm-8pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  Come play on the giant, soft, fun-filled interactive inflatables during Family Jump Time, then enjoy a pizza dinner together! Pizzas and 2-liter drinks can be ordered at check-in, and food will be available later in the playtime. Check the calendar for any schedule changes. Fee.

Story Time.  11am.  bbgb tales for kids, 3003 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221.  A local children’s bookstore in Carytown with story time every Wednesday at 11am.

Thursday, August 20th

Fit Tots. 10am.   Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  It’s never too early to instill the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles! Participants will be lead through various activities that help develop flexibility and hand-eye coordination.  Free with admission.

Third Tuesdays with The Story Lady.  11am. Barnes & Noble-Libbie Place.  Join children’s storyteller and author, Ali Pfautz, The Story Lady for a special storytime, Spring Into Summer. The event starts off with stories and songs celebrating fun in the sun, but that’s not all. For June’s Third Tuesday there’s an optional pre-order special with summertime crafts and treats following Ali’s performance. Come join the wiggling, giggling fun! Storytime is FREE. Flowers After 5. 5pm-9pm. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Stroll through the gardens; enjoy live music, wine and beer, dining and shopping.  Family activities in the Children’s Garden from 5pm-6pm.  The Garden partners with Richmond SPCA on second Thursdays of each month and allows leashed pets (Fidos After 5). WaterPlay in the Children’s Garden is open until 8 p.m. during Flowers After 5 (weather permitting). Free with Garden admission.

Friday, August 21st

Fit Fridays at the Children’s Museum.  Various times and locations.  Free with museum admission.

Storytime. 10am. Cartwheels & Coffee, Carytown.  Sponsored by bbgb tales for kids and lead by Miss Hannah, story time will take you to far away lands, introduce you to new friends with all sorts of interesting creatures, and allow you to discover a world of imagination inside your favorite books!   Free with admission.

Family Scavenger Hunt.  10am.  Maymont Grounds.  Fee.

Science After Dark. 5pm to 9pm. Science Museum of Virginia.  Get into gear for an evening at the Museum and enjoy bike valet parking! Make a cloud in a bottle, play with chalk trail art and get competitive with CO2 racers. Test your luck with an Alka-Seltzer suit and dunk tank, fire H20 rockets with bike pumps and taste some of New Belgium Brewery’s delicious signature beers! Pedal into The Dome for a special all-live Cosmic Expeditions taking off at 6:30 pm, then stick around for a showing of The Wizard of Oz at 8 pm. Afterwards, stargaze through telescopes with the Richmond Astronomical Society. $5 or free for members. College students with ID will receive free admission.

Kids Fun Friday.   Drop your kids off to have fun at Spirited Art  while you enjoy some time for yourself.  Kids will be lead step by step as they paint their masterpieces. Registration is required! Ages: 5 and Up.  www.myspiritedart.com

PP&K – Punt, Pass and Kick.  6pm-8pm.  Courthouse Park, Multipurpose Field 7, 7232 Courtland Farm Road, Hanover, Virginia 23069.  This free event will allow participants to successfully throw 1 pass, kick 1 punt and 1 placekick. The first place winners in each age bracket (6 – 7, 8 – 9, 10 – 11, 12 – 13, 14 – 15) will advance to the sectional competition to be held in late October/early November with the possibility of advancing to the national finals to be held at an NFL playoff game in January. Sorry, no cleats permitted.  Free.

Romp n’ Roll Mechanicsville Kids Night Out. 6pm-9 pm. 6300 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville VA 23111. Every kid deserves a special night out…and so do you! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run and play with our energetic instructors and enjoy a pizza party dinner at Romp n’ Roll! No need to be a member; register by calling 804-730-2060. ($20 for one child, $35 for two children, $40 for three children; no discounts apply, children must be siblings to qualify for pricing).

Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm-10:30pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  The kids will be happy with an evening of jumping, games, dinner and a movie! 4-12 years old.  Fee.

Movies in the Park Series.  8:30pm (or when it gets dark).  Forest Hill Park. This week – Into the Woods.  A weekly friday night, city-wide event, open to the public.  Bring your refreshments, blankets and chairs and enjoy the movie.  Free.

Saturday, August 22nd

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Animal Day.  10am-4pn.  CMoR Central.  A variety of live animals will be stopping by for visiting and – more importantly – petting! This event is FREE with museum admission. Appearing for Animal Day are: Teeny Tiny Farm, For the Love of Pooches & Poodles, SPCA Agility Dogs and Parrots of Paradise. Free with museum admission.

Build Thor’s Chariot.  10am. Local Lowes stores.  The Avengers are coming to Lowe’s! Bring in your child to build as part of the “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” Summer series. Registration required.  Registration opens 12:00 AM (EST)  Aug 10th. Free.

2015 Summer “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Reenactment Series.  1:15pm – 2:30pm.  Historic St. John’s Church.  1:15 p.m. Doors open, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, 1:30 p.m. Music program, 1:45 p.m. Reenactment begins Reenactment begins (no admittance after program begins or when church is at capacity).  This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5.00. Reservations are available for groups of ten or more for fee of $5 per person, up to 100 reserved seats. Seating is first come, first served. Seat saving will not be permitted. The entire party must be present before seating will take place.  No admittance after the reenactment begins.  This reenactment is not recommended for children under the age of 6. We ask that parents escort restless little delegates outside so that the audience is not disturbed. Purchase tickets at https://www.brownpapertickets.com.  Street parking is available.

Romp n’ Roll Midlothian Kids Night Out. 6pm-9pm. 11541 Busy Street, Midlothian VA 23236. Every kid deserves a special night out…and so do you! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run and play with our energetic instructors and enjoy a pizza party dinner at Romp n’ Roll! Family Fest and Richmond Kickers Game.  5:30pm.  City Stadium.   Admission is just $20 for the whole family before 6:30 p.m.  The fun starts at 5:30 pm with live music, a one-of-a-kind fun zone featuring human foosball and a 24-foot double drop slide, RVA food trucks and craft beer on tap.  Then, get loud with the Red Army when the Richmond Kickers battle Saint Louis FC at 7pm.  Fee.
