Summer Sounds.  Stony Point Fashion Park.  Enjoy live music while you stroll, shop and dine to all your favorite tunes performed by local musicians every Friday, Saturday and Sunday!  Weather permitting.

How to Make a Monster.     Science Museum of Virginia.  Uncover the world of monsters and creatures from the movies! Find out how they’re brought to life – from an idea to the final project – and take a look at the behind-the scenes art and technology of animatronics. Included with exhibit admission; free for members.

Today – September 30th

Water Play.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.   During warm spring, summer, and fall days, the Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Don’t forget a towel and remember that swimming diapers are required for those not potty-trained. Water Play is operational when the air temperature is 70 degrees or higher.  April 21 – Sept 30. (weather permitting).  Free with garden admission.

Today – October 12th

Butterflies Live!  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Butterflies LIVE! is an indoor exhibit in the Conservatory geared for all ages. Get up close and personal as hundreds of tropical butterflies feed, flutter and take flight all around you. Explore their origins, preferred habitats and lifecycles. Free with garden admission.

Monday, August 4th

Garden Art Studio.  1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Work alongside staff artist, Katelyn Coyle, in the colorful Garden Art Studio located beside the Hidden Tunnel. Drop-in and unfold your creative energy. Use provided materials to collaborate, explore and reflect on your own Garden experience.  Free with Garden admission.

Robots and Mudpies Preschool Open House. 1pm-3pm.  2517 Grenoble Road, Henrico, VA 23294.  Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics focused preschool.

First Steps for Fathers (for New and Expectant Fathers).  6:30pm.  Delivered by Commonwealth Parenting.  Free.

Tuesday, August 5th

Kids Club.  9:30am – 10:30am  Chesterfield Towne Center Food Court.  Plenty of fun and light refreshments.  Entertainment this month is “The Backpack Storyteller”.  Free.

Turbo & Walking with Dinosaurs.  10am.  Regal Virginia Center Stadium, Regal Commonwealth Center Stadium, Regal Westchester Commons Stadium, Regal Short Pump Stadium.  Seating on a first come-first served basis.  Admission to these films during the Summer Movie Express is only $1.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.  10am.  Movieland at Boulevard Square.  FREE KIDS SUMMER FILM SERIES.  Seating limited to theater capacity; tickets issued on a first come-first served basis. Films and schedules subject to change without notice.   Seating Starts at 9am.  Free Admission.

Wednesday, August 6th

Drop in and Dig!  9am.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Families with children are invited to drop-in and participate in simple, easy to learn gardening tasks under the guidance of Children’s Garden staff and volunteers. These family-oriented gardening experiences can easily be enjoyed at home. Free with Garden admission.

Thursday, August 7th

Life Stage.  11am.  Festival of Arts, Ha’Penny Stage, Byrd Park, 6000 S. Blvd., Richmond, VA 23220.  A summer long celebration of the arts featuring art exhibits, concerts, dance and theatre with a children’s series on the Ha’ Penny stage.  Free.

Meet the Critters.  12:30pm-3:30pm.  Meadow Farm Museum.  Meadow Farm has various farm animals. Get to know them individually as outdoor tours focus on a different animal each week. Enjoy a hands-on activity related to that animal when you visit.  Free.

Families After 5.  5pm-9pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  Enjoy Flowers After 5 with the family and special events for kids in the Children’s Garden.  Listen to story books, garden, participate in walkabouts and have good, green fun. Featured activities will rotate based on the Children’s Garden monthly seasonal themes.  WaterPlay will remain open until 8pm.  Fee, free for members.

Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition.  Thu, Aug 7th, 7pm, Fri, Aug 8th, 7pm. and Sat, Aug 9th, 7pm.  Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage, 600 E. Friday, August 8th

Good Green Fun.  11am.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Families with children of all ages are invited to spend some time in the Children’s Garden listening to story books, gardening, participating in walkabouts and having good green fun. Featured activities will rotate based on the Children’s Garden monthly seasonal themes.  Free with Garden admission.

No Batteries Required-19th Century Games.  12:30pm-3:30pm.  Meadow Farm Museum. Historically boys and girls were expected to play different games. Learn what was appropriate for each of them and join in as we all play traditional 19th-century games.  For Ages 5+.  Free.

NFL Punt, Pass & Kick.  6pm-8pm.  Courthouse Park, Multipurpose Field 7 , 7232 Courtland Farm Road, Hanover, VA 23069.  Area youth ages 6-15 years are invited to participate. Event will feature 1 pass, 1 punt and 1 placekick with first place winners in each age bracket advancing to the sectional competition to be held in late October/early November with the possibility of advancing to the national finals to be held at an NFL playoff game in January. Saturday, August 9th

Build a Monsters vs Aliens Trolley.  10am. Local Lowes Stores. Do your kids have the need for speed? Bring them into Lowe’s to build a Trolley inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs Aliens. Pre-registration required. Free.

Summer Splash Down.  10am-1pm.   The Armour House and Gardens.  Escape to the Armour House and Gardens as the grounds are transformed into a backyard water park. Sprinklers, slides, and snow cones will help you beat the heat and celebrate the end of summer.  Free.

Romp n’ Roll Midlothian Kids Night Out.  6pm-9pm.  11541 Busy Street, Midlothian VA 23236.   Every kid deserves a special night out…and so do you! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run and play with energetic instructors and enjoy a pizza party dinner at Romp n’ Roll! Carytown Watermelon Festival.  10am-6pm.  Carytown.  There’s a ton of stuff for the kids.  Expanded this year with more than ever before. Bouncies, games, mazes and more…Make sure you check out the Richmond Area Toyota Dealers Kids Zone at Watermelon.  Free.

Reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention and Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!”.  1pm-3pm.  St. John’sChurch.   1:15 pm — Doors open.  Seating is on a first-come, first served basis.  1:30 pm — Music program.  1:45 pm — Reenactment begins.  This event is also FREE, with a suggested donation of $5.00.  Reservations are available for groups of ten or more for fee of $5 per person, up to 100 reserved seats.
