Kindergarten registration is Thursday, April 11, 2013 for all public schools in Virginia. Children who will be age 5 by September 30, 2013 can start kindergarten this fall. But first, they need to be registered.
This is an important date for parents. Registering students on time for kindergarten offers many advantages:
- You receive important information about events and activities that will help your child feel comfortable when school starts.
- A health exam is required and sometimes the need for additional screenings or immunizations are identified. Minimum Immunizations Requirements for Entry Into Child Care and School is available at the Virginia Department of Health website.
- Making sure your child is healthy and ready for kindergarten can prevent your child from experiencing problems in the classroom.
- On-time registrations helps schools better plan for the upcoming school year.
In order to enroll a child in a public school system in Virginia, state law requires a parent or guardian of a child to provide certain information to the child’s school division. Click here for details on what is required.
