Richmond Ballet’s The Nutcracker.  Various Showtimes.  Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage.  Stoner Winslett’s The Nutcracker, heralded as “perfect” by The New York Times, returns to the Carpenter Theatre to celebrate the holiday season!  Join Clara and her friends for a special occasion after select matinee performances of The Nutcracker!  Set in CenterStage’s festive Rhythm Hall, guests will enjoy meeting their favorite characters from the Kingdom of Sweets along with an elegant seated tea and tasty sweets accompanied by live piano.  Clara’s Tea Party is a separate ticketed event.  Fee.

Animated Light Shows.  5pm Nightly.  Stony Point Fashion Park.  Animated light shows take place at the top and bottom of each hour, beginning at 5 pm at the Community Tree.

Today – Monday, Jan. 11th (Closed Dec. 24 & 25)

Dominion GardenFest of Lights H2Whoa!  Nightly 5pm–10pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Dominion GardenFest of Lights is a holiday tradition featuring more than a half million lights, botanical decorations, trains, holiday activities & more.  The first illumination will be 5pm-10pm on the 27th.  Fee.

Today – Sunday, January 3rd

Illumination: A Festival of Trees.  Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.  Themed artisan Christmas trees deck the
Center’s halls as we celebrate our fifth Illumination! Most trees are available for purchase! Plus, don’t forget the scavenger hunt or you’ll miss out on a special treat at the end!  The Center’s annual Tree Lighting is Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 5-7pm . Santa and his elves will be on site!

Monday, December 14th

Music & Movement Mondays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an activity that focuses on music and movement every Monday!  Free with museum admission.

Itsy Bitsy Artists.  10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  Explore your creative side with Miss Lisa.  FREE with admission.

Tuesday, December 15th

15 Cent Kids Days.  Children’s Museum of Richmond.  15¢ Kids Days will offer admission to children for 15¢ on the 15th of each month. Valid at all four locations (Central, Short Pump, Chesterfield, and Fredericksburg), the Museum will feature activities for the entire family – in addition to the play-filled, educational environment that families across Central Virginia have come to associate with CMoR.

Tinker Tuesdays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an fun Math or Science project every Tuesday!  Free with museum admission.

Time to Sing. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  You and your little ones will enjoy singing, dancing, and making music together. Kids will use simple instruments and movements to learn new songs as well as sing along with their favorites. FREE with admission.

Weekly Storytime.  11am.  Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Mall.  Kids can enjoy some of their favorite books read aloud.

Children’s Storytime. 11am. Barnes and Noble Chesterfield. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00 am. Free.

Third Tuesdays with The Story Lady.  11am.  Barnes and Noble-Libbie Place.  Join children’s storyteller, Ali Pfautz, The Story Lady, for some interactive fall fun!  She will entertain little ones with interactive tales, action rhymes, and songs. Free.

STAR WARS CELEBRATION.  3:30 – 4:30pm.  Libbie Mill Library.  Celebrate the release of the new Star Wars movie. Enjoy Star Wars games and activities that will develop your Jedi skills! Space is limited. Groups, please call to arrange something special. For ages 5-11.  Free.

SWEET CELEBRATIONS.  6:30pm.  Tuckahoe Library.  Create mini gingerbread houses to take home, and a large holiday house for the library. Best for ages 3 and up, with an adult. Space limited, pick up a ticket that day.  Free.

HOLIDAY PARTY.  7pm.  Fairfield Library.  A holiday party! Play games, make a craft, and visit with Santa!  Free.

Henrico Pops Chorus.  7:30pm. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.  Join the Henrico Pops Chorus, under the direction of Bobbie Moore, for an evening of holiday fun and seasonal classics!  Free.

Family Jump Night.  6pm-8pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  Come play on the giant, soft, fun-filled interactive inflatables during Family Jump Time, then enjoy a pizza dinner together! Pizzas and 2-liter drinks can be ordered at check-in, and food will be available later in the playtime. Check the calendar for any schedule changes. Fee.

Wednesday, December 16th

Art Workshop Wednesday.   Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can head to the Art Studio for an instructor-led art activity every Wednesday!  Free with museum admission.

Move with Me. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  Clap your hands, stomp your feet, move your bodies to the beat! Miss Sarah Ruppel, of the Richmond Ballet, leads a creative and energetic movement time for your little dancers every Wednesday at 10. Free with admission.

Mad Science in Lab Workshop.  10am to 11am.   Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook.  Science workshops will be held
on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 10:00 AM for elementary age students. These workshops are perfect for homeschoolers. Workshops are $10 each,
last approximately 60 minutes and include a take home science activity. Check the website for the
list of scheduled topics and to register.

Story Time.  11am.  bbgb tales for kids, 3003 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221.  A local children’s bookstore in Carytown with story time every Wednesday at 11am.

Thursday, December 17th

Thoughtful Thursdays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an activity that focuses on helping others every Thursday!  Free with museum admission.

Fit Tots. 10am.   Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  It’s never too early to instill the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles! Participants will be lead through various activities that help develop flexibility and hand-eye coordination.  Free with admission.

Mad Science Preschool Workshop.  10am to 10:40am.  Mad Science Lab in
Innsbrook.  Science preschool workshops will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 10 AM for preschool age students. Preschool workshops are $7 each, last approximately 40 minutes
and include a take home science activity. Check the website for the list of scheduled topics and to
register.

Children’s Storytime.  10:30am.  Barnes and Noble Short Pump.  Every Thursday. On the fourth Thursday of each month, enjoy a special visit from Seymour and the folks from the Children’s Museum.  Free.

Friday, December 18th

Storytime. 10am. Cartwheels & Coffee, Carytown.  Sponsored by bbgb tales for kids and lead by Miss Hannah, story time will take you to far away lands, introduce you to new friends with all sorts of interesting creatures, and allow you to discover a world of imagination inside your favorite books!   Free with admission.

Polar Express (G).  10am & 7pm.  Henrico Theatre.  Come early to visit the train exhibit, meet the conductor, and receive your golden boarding ticket and bell.  Tickets are only $1 per person and can be purchased at the door. Popcorn and sodas are also available for $1.

Science After Dark.  5pm-8pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  An evening of science and activities of heroic proportions! Fly into The Dome for a special all-live Cosmic Expedition taking off at 6:30 pm, then stick around for a showing of Ironman at 8 pm. Afterwards, stargaze through telescopes with the Richmond Astronomical Society. $5 or free for members. College students with ID will receive free admission.

Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm-10:30pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  The kids will be happy with an evening of jumping, games, dinner and a movie! 4-12 years old.  Fee.

Saturday, December 19th

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Kids Holiday Workshops- Snowman Chip and Dip.  10am-Noon. All Fired Up.  Drop off your kids ages 6 and up to paint a snowman chip and dip while you do your holiday shopping, wrapping, or grab a coffee break! Only $35 and call to reserve a spot.

Holiday Lantern Tours.  5:30pm-8pm. Meadow Farm Museum.  Candles are lit and the house at Meadow Farm is alive in anticipation of Christmas. The house is decorated from top to bottom for the holidays. Join the magical fun as costumed living historians lead groups through a candle-lit history of classic Christmas carols. Tours leave every 15 minutes from the Orientation Center. Free.

Christmas with Susan Greenbaum and KOS.  4pm.  Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road Henrico VA 23075.  An evening filled with holiday favorites from Richmond’s own Susan Greenbaum and KOS. Listen to their unique arrangements and sounds of the seasonal songs you love.  $5.

Kid’s Night Out.  6pm-9pm.  Romp n’ Roll – West End.  Take a night off to relax or get out and pick up those last few stocking stuffers while the kids run, jump and have a blast!  Call 804.249.5001 to register or for more details.  Fee.
