For those who have children with juvenile diabetes, or who know someone who battles with the challenges of the disease daily, you know how difficult it is to manage. Types 1 Diabetes cannot be prevented and there is no cure at this time, so participating in fundraisers and events for research such as the Diabetes 5k is important for everyone.
There are plenty of reasons to participate in the upcoming Juvenile Diabetes 5k in Richmond.
- First of all, participating in any kind of 5k is great family fun and is a great lesson for kids about helping others and supporting the community.
- Secondly, it’s a great way to get outside, get some exercise, and fresh air and enjoy time with friends, family, and new friends!
- And third, what better way to help raise money for an important nonprofit organization focused on finding a cure for childhood diabetes?!?
And now – there are “50 more reasons” to participate.

The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. “Less until none” is our promise to progressively remove the impact of T1D on people’s lives until it is no longer a threat to anyone. Our strategic plan aims to deliver a continuous stream of life-changing therapies and, ultimately, a cure for T1D.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D at all ages and all stages of the disease. Driven by dedicated volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with T1D, JDRF is the largest nongovernmental supporter of T1D research.
