Polar Express.  ScienceMuseum of Virginia.  A doubting boy boards a magical train that’s headed to the North Pole and Santa Claus’s home. What unfolds is an adventure where he learns that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.   Fee.

Rocky Mountain Express at the IMAX Dome. Multiple times. Join in the epic adventure of building Canada’s first transcontinental railway as you are propelled on a steam train journey through the Canadian Rockies. Fee.

LiveSky: The Big Bang: the Whole Universe Was In A Hot Dense State.  6pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Let’s start the year off with a bang. How about the Big Bang?! Join us for a night of exploring the biggest explosion of all time! After the show, weather permitting, join members of the Richmond Astronomical Society as they point telescopes up into the vastness of space! $5, free for Museum members.

Saturday, January 19th

Anniversary of The Battle of Trent’s Reach, 1865.  10am-5pm.  Henricus Historical Park.  Civil War living historians will interpret Union and Confederate soldiers and sailors and will include lectures on the battle of Trent’s Reach and other topics related to the Civil War at Dutch Gap and more.

Snow Days Festival.  11am.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – Central for the main event.  Snowy art projects, story time and games available at all three locations.  Free with museum admission.

I Dig Dinosaurs! 1:30pm-2:30pm.  Three Lakes Nature Center.  Ever wonder what it would be like to discover and dig up dinosaurs? Do you have a fascination for those prehistoric giants that once roamed our earth? Delve into the past to study these extinct beasts. For ages 8-10. Fee.

January Jig!  2pm.  Fellowship Hall, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Petersburg.  Join Heart of Ireland School of Dance at our January Jig. This casual afternoon of Irish dancing will include brief demonstrations by each of our classes from our youngest Sprites up through adults. Performances by our 2 companies, Celtic Beats and Celtic Pulse, will also be enjoyed. Free. Open to the public.

Sunday, January 20th

The Ugly Duckling & The Tortoise and the Hare.  1pm & 3pm.  Alice Jepson Theatre, Modlin Center, University of Richmond.  Through the use of cutting edge technology, moving sculpture, puppetry and dance, Light Wire Theatre in conjunction with Corbian Visual Arts and Dance, present The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise and the Hare in an unforgettable theatrical experience.  Fee.

Remember the Titans at the Science Museum of Virginia.  2pm – 5pm. RSVP NOW.  HandsOn and the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities will be hosting a free film screening and discussion.  This film is family-friendly and has a rating of PG.  Following the film they’ll be engaging attendees in a brief discussion on themes presented in the movie and how participants can participate in meaningful service for MLK Day.
