Looking for a winter weekend getaway the whole family will enjoy? ❄️ The longest sled run on the East Coast is just a few hours away at Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, West Virginia (scroll down for Sled Run & Snow Sports).
One of the park’s biggest winter highlights is the Blackwater Sled Run, featuring a thrilling hill that stretches more than a quarter mile long. Riders can travel at almost 25 miles per hour- so it is exciting for kids, teens, and adults alike! Even better, a conveyor belt lift carries riders back to the top, making it easy to enjoy multiple runs without the uphill climb—perfect for families of all ages.
The sled run operates Thursday through Sunday from December 18, 2025, through March 8, 2026. Tickets are very popular and often sell out, so purchasing admission in advance is highly recommended. When booking online, select your preferred date. If it’s sold out, try another date until the “Book Now” option appears.

Beyond sledding, Blackwater Falls State Park offers plenty to explore. Located in the scenic Allegheny Mountains, the park is named for its iconic 57-foot waterfall, known for its amber-colored waters. Families can enjoy 20 miles of hiking trails, scenic overlooks, and multiple waterfalls throughout the park.
Make it a full weekend escape by staying at the Blackwater Falls Lodge, which features 54 comfortable guest rooms and beautiful views of the forested gorge below. Built in the 1950s, the lodge’s mid-century design blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The view from the back patio overlooking Blackwater Canyon is nearly as breathtaking as the park’s famous falls.
With outdoor adventure, scenic beauty, and cozy accommodations, Blackwater Falls State Park is a wonderful family-friendly destination for winter fun. 🛷❄️
