Martin Luther King Jr. Day is January 21st. Here are some fun ways to celebrate!
VMFA Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1–4 pm
Join the 1 pm ribbon cutting of the newly renovated WestRock Art Education Center (AEC) & Memorial Foundation for Children Interactive Gallery exhibition.
Visit Rhythm of Art, the interactive exhibition that explores the relationship between art and music. The exhibition features a tactile print of Romare Bearden’s Three Folk Musicians, a collaborative magnetic mural, and other hands-on activities that connect music and art.
From 1 to 4 pm throughout the AEC, take part in free art activities. Also participate in a community mural project led by local artist Hamilton Glass, highlighting African American community leaders from Richmond.
Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day – A National Day of Service
Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr. Day is also a National Day of Service? People across the country will honor Dr. King by helping their neighbors and communities, serving each other and acting wherever people need help.
HandsOn Greater Richmond offers a database of volunteer opportunities in the Richmond area. The site also offers a MLK Day Legacy of Service Video that is very informative for families.
The HandsOn Greater Richmond database can be searched with age considerations in mind. You can also find volunteer opportunities that extend beyond January 21st – to any day of the year.
