National Park Week is April 20th – 28th, 2013 and it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and have fun. There is free admission to all national parks and many special events nationwide. Virginia is celebrating National Park Week in lots of different ways too. And this year’s National Park Week coincides with Earth Day.
This year’s theme is ‘Did You Know…’ which is all about discovering the wonders of America’s national parks. For example, did you know that national parks include seashores, battlefields, and historic homes. And did you know that most people live within an hour or two of a national park. There are 401 parks coast-to-coast.
National parks have trails, picnic areas, architectural gems, historical sites, and lots of other sites.

RangerZONE
You may want to get your kids involved in the RangerZONE program too. A Junior Ranger is for kids who are interested in exploring art, science, history, wildlife, nature, and outdoors. It’s also for kids who love animals, sailing ships, dinosaurs, and trains! Students complete a series of activities during their park visit, share answers with a park ranger, and receive an official Junior Ranger badge or patch with a Junior Ranger certificate.
There’s also a Web Ranger program available online to make it easy and convenient for kids to participate and learn about lots of events and activities.
