Tweens are at that awkward stage when they’re too old to be kids, and too young to be teens. Keeping them busy and engaged is important as they develop and refine their personality and social skills. Finding activities to educate them while they’re having fun is a challenge at times. But rather than allow them to spend hours on their computers or hand-held technology devices, keep them busy and active in other ways too.

Kings Dominion‘s 16 thrill rides include the longest floorless coaster in the world and a 272-foot 72 mph drop ride! WaterWorks is a pretty fun time, too, with a 650,000 gallon wave pool and more!

Midlothian Athletic Club (MAC) – Basketball, soccer, cheerleading, volleyball, racquetball, field hockey, tennis, swimming, etc. Midlothian Athletic Club has the resources you need to practice in the off season or to supplement your current exercise regime. They have camps for all sports during the summer, and several camps and clinics year round including swimming and tennis. MAC facilities are also available for private sessions for members.

Richmond Kickers – The TOPSoccer sessions are healthy, informative and most importantly, FUN! Each athlete is assigned a Buddy to work with athletes one on one. Sandy River Outdoor Adventure – is home to Central Virginia’s largest adventure park with over 60 obstacles and 20 ziplines. Children 7 and older are eligible to climb, and our friendly and safety conscious staff are there to help them the whole time. The courses are as follows: Yellow – Ages 7-9, 12 ft off ground; Green – Ages 10&Up, 20 ft off ground; Blue & Black Diamond – Ages 15&Up, 28-50 ft off ground. Every climber gets 3 hours in the trees and can advance as they are able. Parents to do have to climb. The Adventure Park is all about self-improvement. They provide a positive environment to encourage growth, and have invested in state of the art safety equipment to allow our adventurers to try, fail, and try again, overcoming fears and building self confidence with no risk. Science Museum of Virginia – The Museum offers lots of engaging fun and educational resources for tweens (and kids/teens). Visit their website to see all they have to offer.
Virginia Historical Society – Although it might sound boring, it’s definitely not! Tweens will enjoy exploring the Museum and they’ll see lots of things they’re learning about in school – bringing their imaginations alive.

Virginia State Parks – Parks offer lots of outdoor space and canoeing, hiking, biking, mountain climbing, and more.
Windy Hill – Windy Hill Golf and Sports Complex is in the village of Midlothian near Richmond Virginia.
