The team’s story dates back to 1926, when they were originally formed as the Savoy Big Five to promote Chicago’s Savoy Ballroom. As their popularity soared and they toured the country playing more than 1,000 games, they became the Harlem Globetrotters — a name now recognized worldwide.
By the early 1940s, the team introduced their signature blend of comedy and elite basketball skills, forever changing sports entertainment. In 1950, Globetrotter Nathaniel Clifton — known as “Sweetwater” — made history as the first African American player to sign an NBA contract, helping pave the way for generations of athletes to come.
Now, nearly a century later, the Harlem Globetrotters continue to dazzle audiences with their unmatched showmanship, basketball artistry, and feel-good fun. Whether you grew up watching them or you’re introducing your kids for the first time, this is a family night out that promises smiles, surprises, and slam dunks you’ll never forget.
