Four baby goats arrived at Maymont this week, and the bouncing bundles of joy now are available for public viewing (and adoration) at the Farm. Better yet, there’s a chance to win exclusive cuddle time with the new kids for anyone who donates $25 or more to the Maymont Adopt an Animal program now through Sunday, April 7 at maymont.org/adopt.
“The arrival of baby goats at Maymont is a spring highlight for thousands of Richmond families and animal lovers. And of course, for me, too!” said Parke Richeson, Maymont Executive Director. “The chance to watch the spring babies leap, play and grow is among the great Maymont experiences. We’re delighted to welcome these new little ones into our animal community which includes farm animals as well as rescued wildlife in need of sanctuary.”
The new kids are Nigerian Dwarf goats, three female and one male, born on Saturday, March 2. The mother goats, Lentil and Daisy, are staying at Maymont with their offspring. Lentil is mother to two females, and Daisy is mother to one female and one male. The male can be recognized by the heart-shaped marking on his back. The new mothers and babies are staying at Maymont this spring through a partnership with Wag-N-Wheel Farm, located in Beaverdam, Virginia.
In addition to visits to the Farm, the new kids can be seen frolicking, running, jumping, eating, sleeping and snuggling on the Maymont live web cam at maymont.org/farm-cam.
Maymont also welcomed ducklings to the Farm this month and is awaiting the arrival of chicks, young elk and piglets during the spring season.
Anyone who would like to help feed and care for the new babies and the rest of Maymont’s animal family is encouraged to donate to the Adopt an Animal program at maymont.org/adopt. Supporters who give $25 or more to the program through April 7 will be entered to win a close encounter for four people with the baby goats on a mutually agreeable date and time.
