Sunday, November 1st

Virginia Thanksgiving Festival.  Berkeley Plantation.  House Tours 9am-4:30pm and Festival Noon-4pm.  Celebrate the First English Speaking Thanksgiving in the New World.  A day dedicated to history, food and fun with tours of the 1726 manor house, a living history program, tribal dancers, arts, crafts & jewelry vendors, choral music, traditional Thanksgiving dinner and a re-enactment of the Landing of Capt. Woodlief & his men.

El Dia De Los Muertos.  1pm-5pm.  Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.  For all ages! In conjunction with the Latin Ballet of Virginia, “Dia de los Muertos” is a festive celebration of life with live performances, dancing, music, sweets, treats, and fun art activities for the whole family! Wear your Halloween costume to join in the fun at this community tradition!  Free.

Open Studio Sundays.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Go by the studios anytime between 1pm and 4pm to enjoy “make-it, take-it” art activities inspired by objects from the VMFA collection. A new art project offered every month, with assistance from VMFA volunteers! (For groups of eight or more children, please email youthstudio@vmfa.museum.)  Free, no registration required.

Monday, November 2nd

Music & Movement Mondays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an activity that focuses on music and movement every Monday!  Free with museum admission.

Itsy Bitsy Artists.  10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  Explore your creative side with Miss Lisa.  FREE with admission.

First Steps for Fathers (Expectant and New Dads Only).  6:30pm – 8pm.  St Mary’s Hospital Education Ctr Rm 156,5801 Bremo Road, Richmond, VA.  Delivered by Commonwealth Parenting.  New and Expectant dads learn the basic tools they need to care for an infant during the first 3 months of life. Using the Conscious Fathering Program curriculum, this class walks dads through a baby’s typical cycle of care, from feeding to diapering; sleeping to crying. Dad leaves class feeling more confident and capable in the care and nurturing of infants in harmony with mom from the first moments of baby’s life. Free.

Tuesday, November 3rd

Tinker Tuesdays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an fun Math or Science project every Tuesday!  Free with museum admission.

Time to Sing. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  You and your little ones will enjoy singing, dancing, and making music together. Kids will use simple instruments and movements to learn new songs as well as sing along with their favorites. FREE with admission.

Weekly Storytime.  11am.  Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Mall.  Kids can enjoy some of their favorite books read aloud.

Children’s Storytime. 11am. Barnes and Noble Chesterfield. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00 am. Free.

Family Jump Night.  6pm-8pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  Come play on the giant, soft, fun-filled interactive inflatables during Family Jump Time, then enjoy a pizza dinner together! Pizzas and 2-liter drinks can be ordered at check-in, and food will be available later in the playtime. Check the calendar for any schedule changes. Fee.

Wednesday, November 4th

Art Workshop Wednesday.   Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can head to the Art Studio for an instructor-led art activity every Wednesday!  Free with museum admission.

Move with Me. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  Clap your hands, stomp your feet, move your bodies to the beat! Miss Sarah Ruppel, of the Richmond Ballet, leads a creative and energetic movement time for your little dancers every Wednesday at 10. Free with admission.

Story Time.  11am.  bbgb tales for kids, 3003 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221.  A local children’s bookstore in Carytown with story time every Wednesday at 11am.

Thursday, November 5th

Thoughtful Thursdays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an activity that focuses on helping others every Thursday!  Free with museum admission.

Fit Tots. 10am.   Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  It’s never too early to instill the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles! Participants will be lead through various activities that help develop flexibility and hand-eye coordination.  Free with admission.

Children’s Storytime.  10:30am.  Barnes and Noble Short Pump.  Every Thursday. On the fourth Thursday of each month, enjoy a special visit from Seymour and the folks from the Children’s Museum.  Free.

Children’s Storytime. 11am. Barnes and Noble Chesterfield. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00 am.  Free.

Architectural Elements.  4:15 – 6pm,  VMFA, Art Education Room.  For ages 5 – 8 | Focus on lines, shapes, and perspective while exploring and then sketching the architectural and landscape elements found on the museum grounds. Fee.

Friday, November 6th

Fit Fridays.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – All Locations.  Activity times vary by location.  Kids can take part in an activity that focuses on getting fit every Friday!  Free with museum admission.

Storytime. 10am. Cartwheels & Coffee, Carytown.  Sponsored by bbgb tales for kids and lead by Miss Hannah, story time will take you to far away lands, introduce you to new friends with all sorts of interesting creatures, and allow you to discover a world of imagination inside your favorite books!   Free with admission.

Special Night for Special Needs.  5:30pm-7:30pm.  Children’s Museum – Central.  Special Night for Special Needs is an evening especially for the families of children with special needs age 10 and under.  Visitors enjoy all the museum has to offer and benefit from the availability of adapted materials, special activities, a cool-down space and reduced number of visitors.  Free.

Kid’s Fun Night.  6pm-8pm.  All Fired Up, Short Pump & Midlothian.  On the first Friday of each month, All Fired Up is hosting Kids’ Fun Night! Drop the kids (ages 6 to 12) off between 6 to 8pm for a fun-night of pottery painting. Enjoy your time while letting your kids have a fun night out on their own at All Fired Up!   The cost is $25 per child and is for ages 6 and up. Reservations are required and space is limited.  Fee.

Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm-10:30pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  The kids will be happy with an evening of jumping, games, dinner and a movie! 4-12 years old.  Fee.

Richmond Holiday Shoppers Fair.  November 6 and 7. Richmond-area museum gift shops sell their wares, including many specialty items perfect for holiday gift-giving. Proceeds from the sale benefit the participating museums.  Participating museums include Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Science Museum of Virginia, Agecroft Hall, Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen, Preservation Virginia, Library of Virginia, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Virginia Historical Society and The Valentine Museum.

Saturday, November 7th

Build a Veteran’s Day Jet – Kids Workshop.  9am-Noon. Local Home Depot Stores. FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered at all Home Depot stores. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement. Register online.  Free.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Touch A Truck.  10am-2pm.  Richmond International Raceway (RIR) Main Gate, 600 East Laburnum Avenue Richmond, Virginia.  The Junior League of Richmond’s 10th Annual Touch a Truck is a unique and interactive event that allows children to see, touch, and safely explore their favorite big trucks and heavy machinery, as well as to meet the personnel who protect, serve, and build the Richmond community. The types of vehicles include – construction, landscaping emergency, utility, transportation, delivery and some unique ones! The event also features crafts, games and food trucks.  Fee.  Rescheduled date.

Stories at the Museum.  11am.  Virginia Historical Society.  Special educator-led readings of children’s history books.  Free and open to all ages.

ELNS Stop & Shop Craft Show and Fall Carnival. Stop & Shop 9am-3pm, Fall Carnival 11am-1pm.  Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Rd.  The ELNS Holiday Stop & Shop is an annual craft show that was founded in 2009 as a fundraiser for Epiphany Lutheran Nursery School. This year the show will be on Saturday ONLY! 30 and 40 vendors each year that represent a large variety of crafts and other products. This year, there will be a fall carnival for the preschool from 11 am to 1 pm. All with young children are invited to attend and have fun! Games, live entertainment by Melody Magic and The Story Lady, food trucks, and more!  Fee.

Digital: Photoshop.  1pm – 4 pm.  VMFA, Pauley Center Computer Lab.  For ages 13 – 17 | Learn to alter images and design graphics using the essential tools and functions of Adobe Photoshop.  Fee.

Veterans Day “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” Reenactment.  1:45pm – 2:30pm.  St. John’s Church, 2401 E. Broad Street, Richmond, 23223.  1:15 pm – Doors open, seating is first-come, first-served basis.  1:30 pm – Music program.  1:45 pm – Reenactment begins.  This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5.00.

Sunday, November 8th

The 7th Annual Short Pump Mile.  Rescheduled date.  7:45am.  Short Pump Town Center.  NOVA of Virginia Aquatics presents the 2015 C&F Bank/Lite 98 Short Pump Mile & Short Pump Express Fun Run – is Richmond’s largest timed youth road race. The race is held at Short Pump Town Center in front of American Family Fitness, with the first heat starting at 7:45 a.m. All participants will receive a race T-shirt, a medal and plenty of refreshments! Awards will be given to age group and overall winners. The Short Pump Express, a 400 meter Fun Run (non-timed), is offered to children age 5 & younger who aren’t quite up to tackling the mile. Proceeds from the race benefit NOVA’s community outreach programs.  St. Mary’s for Kids, will award the top five schools with the most participants cash totaling $2000 to be used for their physical education programs – get your school to participate in the School Participation Competition!  Fee.
