There are so many ways for kids to have Halloween fun this month – we had to list them all on one spot! There are outdoor movies, festivals and several trick or treating options!
Friday, October 16th
Friday Night Movie at the Pumpkin Patch. 7pm movie start time. Tom Leonard’s Outdoor Haybale Theatre, 4150 Tom Leonard Drive, Glen Allen, VA. Tonight – ‘Spooky Bats and Scardy Cats’. Dress Warm, Hot Chocolate, Warm Cider. Free.
Saturday, October 17th
Harvest Festival. Noon-4pm. Meadow Farm, 3400 Mountain Road Glen Allen VA 23060. Celebrate the harvest with fun for the whole family. Explore hands on activities and demonstrations that bring fall to the forefront, such as candle dipping, apple pressing, tractor rides, and living history exhibits. Enjoy live musical entertainment and the Wild West Medicine Show. Children can pick their own pumpkin to take home from the “Great Pumpkin Patch”. Concessions will be available for purchase. Free.
Monday, October 19th
HALLOWEEN TALES. 7pm. Fairfield Library. A selection of truly terrifying seasonal readings. Stephen King, Ray Bradbury and others will be featured. Not for the young or faint of heart. A nurse will be in attendance…BYOB, Bring Your Own Blood! Free.
Tuesday, October 20th
HALLOWEEN PARTY. 7pm. Varina Library. Calling all ghouls and goblins to enjoy stories, a craft and refreshments at our annual Halloween Party! Wear your spooky costume! Free.
October 22nd, 23rd and 24th
Haunted Henricus: Things that Go Bump In the Night. 7pm-9pm. Henricus Historical Park. Experience an evening of spellbinding accounts and legendary tales as storytellers relive old English and Virginia Indian legends and folklore. Join them by the fireside and listen to European stories early Colonists told as they recounted tales from their homeland. Capture the essence of what a Colonist felt between 1607-1622 in a strange new land surrounded by danger, darkness and uncertain peril. The harvest is in, the nights grow longer and danger lurks in the shadows. This year there is an overnight Haunted evening being offered. Light refreshments served. Tours not appropriate for children under 6. Registration required. Fee.
Friday, October 23rd
SpookieFUN Fest. 5pm-9pm. Pole Green Park, 8996 Pole Green Park Ln. Mechanicsville, VA 23116. Families with children 12 and under, this free fun night is just for you. Kids, wear your favorite costume and join Taylor and friends for flashlight toy and candy hunts (hunts throughout the evening), trick or treat booths, rides, games and activities. Children can move and groove in Taylors ‘Lil’ Frankenstein’s Monster Mash Bash’ dance area. Concession items and novelty food items will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring a flashlight and bag for all your trick or treat goodies. Plus, at the conclusion of the last flashlight candy hunt (approximately 7:45 p.m.), your whole family can view the G rated showing of Monsters University on the giant inflatable screen from the comfort of your vehicle or feel free to bring lawn chairs and a blanket. The movie will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. at which time all of the rides and games will conclude. Free.

Scarytown Trick or Treating. Noon-3pm. Many merchants open their doors for trick-or-treating families. Just look for the Pumpkin sign in windows for participating merchants. The Zombie Walk is also that day. Zombies will begin walking in Carytown at 2:30pm. Free.

Goblins and Gourds. 1pm-4pm. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Harvest celebration with live music, pumpkin decorating and good green fun in the Children’s Garden. Goblins and Gourds is fun for the whole family!
Howl-O-Ween. 1pm-3pm. Stony Point Fashion Park. Dress up your family and your dog & join Stony Point Fashion Park for an afternoon of spooky fun. Events include a dog costume contest and family festivities. Family activities include pumpkin painting, balloon creations, children’s crafts and a special performance by Richmond Ballet’s Minds In Motion Team XXL. Free.

Rompy’s Halloween Bash. 2 sessions: 4pm – 5:30pm and 6pm – 7:30pm. All Richmond Romp n’ Roll locations. Bring your little pumpkins to Romp n’ Roll for a not-so-scary good time. Join us for a night of Halloween fun including crafts, games, activities and pizza! We encourage everyone to dress up, but please no glitter or restricting costumes. HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR. 11am. Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage. Come in your favorite costume and listen to the RSO perform music from Frozen, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and more. Your special ghosts, goblins and princesses may even receive a special pre-concert Trick or Treat bag! Arrive early! Pre-concert festival opens at 10am featuring the popular instrument petting zoo. Spooky Party. 10am-4pm. CMoR Short Pump, Chesterfield & Fredericksburg will be hosting a not-so-spooky party on Halloween! Put on your costume and join us for some Halloween-themed fun and games all day long! Free with Museum Admission.
Curious George’s Halloween BooFEST. 10am – 12:30pm. 23 Sesame Street, Richmond, VA. Curious George is coming for Halloween! The event is for children ages 2-8 years old and their families. Apple Door Systems’ Fall Festival. Noon-4pm. John Rolfe Commons Shopping Center, 2200 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond, VA 23233. Locally owned Apple Door Systems of Richmond is having a Fall Festival. Wear your costume and bring the whole family for this FREE event sponsored by the shops at John Rolfe Center Commons! This event will include a bounce house, face painting, children’s costume contest, pet costume contest, games, and more!
HALLOWEEN FAIR. 3pm. Tuckahoe Library. Games, face painting, crafting, storytelling, and more! This free event is great for families looking for a safe and fun indoor Halloween celebration. Costumes encouraged. Hosted by the West End TAB and sponsored by the Friends of the Tuckahoe Library. Free.
Halloween Hoopla. 4pm-8pm. CMoR Central will close at 2pm to host this special ticketed event. Adults and children are invited to dress in their Halloween best for an evening full of family fun! Trick or Treat through the Holiday Village and enjoy Halloween-themed activities and crafts. Adult tickets are $4 and kids get in free, but even though children are free, they still require a ticket! Fun Running All Month Long
The Great Pumpkin Fest. King Dominion. Families can enjoy Halloween together with a street party of frightful fun including a petting zoo, foam pit, pumpkin painting and more! The Great Pumpkin Fest runs select Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 26 – Oct. 31. Activities are from 12:00pm until 5:00pm. *The Great Pumpkin Fest is for kids under 54”. Fee.
