Monday, September 21st

Itsy Bitsy Artists. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  More process than product, your art experience will be loads of fun and sometimes a little messy. Add some color to the world each Monday! FREE with admission.

Reach Out and Read Event hosted at Romp n’ Roll.  1pm-3pm.  Mechanicsville, Midlothian, and West End Romp n’ Roll locations.  Registration Required.  The first in a series of Reach Out and Read and Romp n’ Roll partner events.   The reading event will start at 1:00 and will last about 15-minutes and will be followed by an Open Gym session in which kids and their parents can enjoy a chance to play at the Romp n’ Roll facility. This is a parent-participation event geared toward children age 5 and under. For newcomers, the cost is $8, $4 of which will go to Reach Out and Read Virginia. Current Romp n’ Roll members can attend the event for free as part of their membership. If members wish to make a donation to Reach Out and Read Virginia, they may do so at the event. Space is limited and registration for all participants is required and can be done by calling 804-364-6363 or online registration is available here.

Krafty Kids.  3:30pm-4:15pm.  Glen Allen Branch Library.  Make a festive fall craft.  Free.

Tuesday, September 22nd

Family Fishing. 8am-10am. Reedy Creek Visitors Center, 4301 Riverside Drive, Richmond Virginia 23219. Learn to tie fishing knots, where and how to cast and how to identify what you reel in. This course is focused on introducing new people to fishing and building introductory skills, but we welcome seasoned anglers as well. Rods and reels provided. Participants over age 18 that wish to fish must have a valid VA Freshwater License (available online for $23 at https://dgiflicense.virginiainteractive.org/) Wear a bathing suit and river appropriate footwear. Please register for this event. If you have trouble registering, please come anyway! They can get you set up when you get there. All September events are free.

Time to Sing. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  You and your little ones will enjoy singing, dancing, and making music together. Kids will use simple instruments and movements to learn new songs as well as sing along with their favorites. FREE with admission.

Weekly Storytime.  11am.  Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Mall.  Kids can enjoy some of their favorite books read aloud.

Young @ Art: I Am an Artist.  11am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Ages 2 ½ – 5.  Explore the meaning of artistic expression and create imaginative masterpieces inspired by artwork in the galleries.  Fee.

Family Jump Night.  6pm-8pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  Come play on the giant, soft, fun-filled interactive inflatables during Family Jump Time, then enjoy a pizza dinner together! Pizzas and 2-liter drinks can be ordered at check-in, and food will be available later in the playtime. Check the calendar for any schedule changes. Fee.

Observe the Moon Night.  7pm.  Twin Hickory Library.  Enjoy amazing views of the Moon and other celestial objects with high-quality telescopes operated by members of the Richmond Astronomical Society. Brief presentation on Astronomy from 7-7:30 pm, followed by viewing through telescopes starting at about 7:45. In case of cloudy weather, the ‘rain’ date will be Wednesday, September 23rd from 7-9 pm.  Free.

Move with Me. 10am. Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  Clap your hands, stomp your feet, move your bodies to the beat! Miss Sarah Ruppel, of the Richmond Ballet, leads a creative and energetic movement time for your little dancers every Wednesday at 10. Free with admission.

Story Time.  11am.  bbgb tales for kids, 3003 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23221.  A local children’s bookstore in Carytown with story time every Wednesday at 11am.

Fit Tots. 10am.   Cartwheels and Coffee, Carytown.  It’s never too early to instill the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles! Participants will be lead through various activities that help develop flexibility and hand-eye coordination.  Free with admission.

Geology Hike.  11am-1pm.  Tredegar Parking Area, 300 Tredegar St., Richmond VA 23219.  Enjoy a leisurely hike around Belle Isle as we discuss the geologic history of our state and point out several interesting rock formations along the way. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn the basics of geology in a hands on context and better understand the significance of the fall line in our city. Please bring water, a snack and hiking shoes.  Please register for this event. Frog’s Eye Tour.  2pm-4pm.  Reedy Creek Visitors Center, 4301 Riverside Drive, Richmond Virginia 23219.  snorkel, swim and giggle in the river as we learn about the James River Park from the eye-level level of all our water friends. Please bring water (to drink) and snacks, and dress to be in the water. We will provide snorkel masks, but feel free to bring your own! Sneakers or other close-toed shoes are required.  Please register for this event.  If you have trouble registering, please come anyway! Family Time: Movie ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’.  6:30pm. North Park Branch Library.  Grumpy Alexander thinks he is the only one who is having a bad day. Family comedy based on the book by Judith Viorst. For more information call 290-9700.  Free.

The Goodnight Story: What New Parents Need to Know about Babies and Sleep.  6:30 pm – 8pm. Innsbrook, 4121 Cox Rd, Ste 115, Glen Allen, VA 23060.  Understanding sleep needs for babies and establishing sleep routines are often a concern and challenge for parents. Learn about the ages and stages of sleep, how to set routines and conditions conducive to sleep, sleep safety tips and solutions for common sleep challenges. PB&J Party: Musical Party.  5:30-6:45pm.  Melody Magic Music Studio, 3041 Lauderdale Drive.  The first PB&J Party — that’s Pizza, Books, and Jammies! PIZZA and water will be provided (for kids and adults!), bring your favorite BOOK to read/share with others, and come in your JAMMIES! They will enjoy dinner and share books together from 5:30-6:15, and then enjoy some music activities.  One child with adults is $15; two children with adults is $20. Saturday, September 26th

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Fire Truck with Safety Cards.  10am. Local Lowes stores. Fire Safety Month is coming up in October. Bring your kids into Lowe’s this Saturday and they can build this awesome Fire Truck! Registration required.  Free.

ChesterFest.  10am-5pm.  Chester Village Green (beside the Chester Library), 11800 Centre Street.  Enjoy an assortment of food and craft vendors, live music and other entertainment, like the dog show and pie eating contest.
ChesterFest is a family-oriented gathering, including a Kid’s Zone, equipped with inflatables and hands-on activities. Event is a partnership between Chesterfield Parks and Recreation and Chester Community Association.  Free.

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at CMoR Chesterfield.  Noon-12:30pm.  6629 Lake Harbour Dr., Midlothian, VA 23112.  The Latin Ballet of Virginia will put on a live, interactive performance that will surely be a ton of fun! Free with museum admission.

Pocahontas Premieres: Richmond Symphony.  6pm-7:15pm.  Pocahontas State Park, Heritage Amphitheater.  Bring a blanket, share a picnic dinner and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Richmond Symphony, conducted by Steven Smith, alongside family and friends!   Gates open at 5 p.m. Concert is free to the public and does not require a ticket. Saturday, September 26th to Sunday, September 27th

Camp In: Girls in Science.  6pm-9pm. Science Museum of Virginia.  This special girls-only Camp In will have Museum guests bridging the gap! Learn how bridges are designed to meet load, stress and aesthetic challenges, design and build a bridge and work with Virginia J. Epperly, Senior Structural Engineer at the Virginia Department of Transportation Structure and Bridge Division. Make a splash with Humpback Whales and see Seven Wonders of the Earth in The Dome. Girls in Science is recommended for grades 6-8; some activities fulfill SOL and Scout Badge requirements. For every four youth, one adult chaperone is required. Sunday, September 27th

DiggityFEST 2015.  1pm-5pm.  Westchester Commons.  A benefit for Connor’s Heros and the last performance by the Diggity Dudes.  Lots of other fun includes – inflatables, games, prizes and performances by Silly Bus and Susan Greenbaum.
