Tuesday, May 19th

Third Tuesdays with The Story Lady. 11am. Barnes & Noble-Libbie Place. This is a new venue for children’s storyteller, Ali Pfautz, aka The Story Lady. Your kids will be giggling and wiggling during her interactive storytime that includes original tales, songs, and action rhymes! Free.

Young @ Art: Artsy Animals.  11am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 2 ½ – 5.  Investigate animal characteristics and habitats while you paint, sculpt, and draw your way through the animal kingdom.  Fee.

PRESCHOOL DANCE PARTY. 10:30am. Fairfield Library. Join us for a preschool dance party. Enjoy music, movement activities and show off your dance skills at the library! For preschool and toddler aged children. Free.

Adoptive Parenting Class – Part 1.  6:30pm. Delivered by Commonwealth Parenting. Part 2 is May 26th.  Fee.

Wednesday, May 20th

Mad Science in Lab Workshop. 10am to 11am. Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook. Science workshops will be held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month for Elementary age students. These workshops are perfect for homeschoolers. Workshops are $10 each, last approximately 60 minutes and include a take home science activity. Check the website for the list of scheduled topics and to register.

SCIENCE AND STORIES. 10am. Dumbarton Library. What could be better than storytime? Science and stories! Enjoy a special 45 minute storytime with science experiments and discovery stations. Space is limited. Groups please call in advance. Ages 3-5. Free.

Drop-in and Dig! 2pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Families with children are invited to drop-in and participate in simple, easy to learn gardening tasks under the guidance of Children’s Garden staff and volunteers. These family-oriented gardening experiences can easily be enjoyed at home. So join us to learn how much fun gardening with children can be!  Fee.

Thursday, May 21st

Plein Air Painting.  4:15pm – 6pm.  Virignia Musuem of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 5 – 8.  Experience impressionist-style painting en plein air (in the open air). While painting what you see outside, focus on color theory and brushstrokes.  Fee.

Friday, May 22nd

En Plein Air with Parents.  5pm – 7 pm.  Virignia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Recommended for children ages 5 – 12.  Together kids and parents find a picturesque spot in the VMFA’s Sculpture Garden to set up their easels and, with guidance from an experienced painter, paint en plein air (in the open air).  Fee.

Saturday, May 23rd

Jr. Robotics using LEGO® WeDo. 9am-11am. Engineering for Kids, 1586 Mountain Road Glen Allen, VA 23060.  For ages 5-8. Jr. Robotics Engineers will be using LEGO® bricks, motors, and sensors to construct a house, see saw, and car with moving parts and sounds! During this morning workshop they will learn the principles behind programming as they control the moving parts of each build.

Strawberry Field Festival. 10am-5pm. The Berry Patch, 3622 Darbytown Court, Richmond VA 23231. Fresh local strawberries (pick your own or pre-picked) and spring vegetables available, Live music, Craft vendors & local businesses, Hay rides & pony rides, Activities for all ages, Food vendors

Sunday, May 24th

2015 Summer “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Reenactment Series.  1:15pm – 2:30pm.  Historic St. John’s Church.  1:15 p.m. Doors open, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, 1:30 p.m. Music program, 1:45 p.m. Reenactment begins Reenactment begins (no admittance after program begins or when church is at capacity).  This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5.00. Reservations are available for groups of ten or more for fee of $5 per person, up to 100 reserved seats. Seating is first come, first served. Seat saving will not be permitted. The entire party must be present before seating will take place.  No admittance after the reenactment begins.  This reenactment is not recommended for children under the age of 6. We ask that parents escort restless little delegates outside so that the audience is not disturbed. Purchase tickets at https://www.brownpapertickets.com.  Street parking is available.
