Wicked Plants. Science Museum of Virginia.  Wicked Plants unearths 75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants inside of a dilapidated, Victorian home. Guests traverse through each room to uncover the biochemical, physical and neurological processes between botanicals and the human body.  Free with museum admission.  Through Sunday, May 17th.

Thursdays thru May 7th 

Fresh Start For Single Mothers “Necessary Ingredients”.  Thursday Nights  6pm-7:30pm.  Weekly meetings will be held at Velocity Church, 3300 Church Road, Richmond Virginia 23233.  A fun wonderfully uplifting program for single mothers.  This program is designed to help single mothers through support, new friendships, encouragement, enlightenment & motivation.  It is used to encourage single mothers in a positive direction while taking a closer look at their present lives and future with round table reflective discussion, guest speakers and interaction with other single moms.  Dinner and Childcare is FREE.  Special program for children & teens.  Weekly Prizes, Giveaways & FUN!   Registration Required – they need to know who is to attend and children’s ages, names, grade and gender of the children you would be bringing 804-364-0460.

On the Air Radio Players present Here Comes Mr. Jordan.  7:30pm.  The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.  For all ages. The On the Air Radio Players are pleased to present an old-time radio show taped before a live audience! Come and be a part of this hour-long taping featuring live music, live sound effects, and your favorite stories from the “golden age of radio.” Free.

Wednesday, March 4th

Mad Science in Lab Workshop. 10am to 11am. Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook. Science workshops will be held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month for Elementary age students. These workshops are perfect for homeschoolers. Workshops are $10 each, last approximately 60 minutes and include a take home science activity. Sketch It Out.  4:15pm-6pm. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 5 – 8.  Build on shading techniques like crosshatching and stippling, practice blind contour drawings, and even model for fellow artists to create gestural figure drawings.  Fee.

The Clothesline Children’s Spring Consignment Sale. Bon Air Community Center, 8725 Quaker Lane, Richmond 23235.  The sale includes children’s clothing (newborn through teens/juniors), maternity wear, shoes, accessories, feeding & diapering supplies, nursery decor & furniture, carriers & slings, books, electronics, and toys.

First Friday Sampler.  5:30pm-9pm.  Visual Arts Center of Richmond.  On the second friday this month!  Try your hand at different art samplers.  Budget and kid-friendly, but some  minimum age requirements.  Extra this month is the annual holiday open house. The fun-filled evening celebration will include artist demos, make-and-take workshops, an art supplies donation drive, music, holiday movie screening, cookie decorating, raffles and much more.   Treats will include a hot cocoa + coffee bar, Center of the Universe Beer, baked goods and much more.  Fee.

Special Night for Special Needs.  5:30pm-7:30pm.  Children’s Museum – Short Pump and Fredericksburg.  Special Night for Special Needs is an evening especially for the families of children with special needs age 10 and under.  Visitors enjoy all the museum has to offer and benefit from the availability of adapted materials, special activities, a cool-down space and reduced number of visitors.  Free.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

LEGO my Library.  10am-Noon.  Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA, 23227.  Play and create with other kids in the community. Work together to create a lego world, use our ipads to make a stop motion movie, or the chromebook to build with virtual legos! All legos provided. Suitable for children ages 5 and up. Free SAT Practice Test. 10am-2pm.  Twin Hickory Library, 5001 Twin Hickory Rd, Glen Allen, VA. Staff from Princeton Review will conduct a 4-hour SAT practice test. Limited to 40 teens who are rising high school junior and seniors. There will be a results session March 19. Registration is required.

Storybook Princess Visit.   Meet & Greets at 10am and 2pm.  Children’s Museum – Chesterfield location.  Come and meet your favorite story book princesses as part of National Reading Awareness Month.  Free with museum admission.

Stories at the Museum. 11am-Noon. Virginia Historical Society. Special educator-led readings of children’s history books and a make-it-and-take-it craft activity related to the text.  Open to all ages. No pre-registration required.  Today – Women’s History Month -I Could Do That!.  Free.

Family Program: Women of Richmond (All ages).  11am-Noon. The Valentine, 1015 East Clay Street, Richmond, VA 23219.   Pre-registration is required.  Fee.

Tredegar Battalion. 11:30am. The American Civil War Center, 500 Tredegar Street, Richmond, VA 23219. They are looking to recruit youngsters every Saturday at 11:30am to join the Tredegar Battalion. Discover how a Civil War soldier trained and fought with the rifle musket by drilling with a costumed interpreter. Program includes a blank, black powder firing.

Shrinky Selfies.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Using portraits in the galleries and even selfies from your cell phone, illustrate faces and figures onto shrinkable plastic. Turn your completed works into wearable art, accessories, or even home décor.  Fee.

Art Without Limits.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 6 – 9.  Step outside the box in this experimental painting session. Use nontraditional surfaces and applications while focusing on the process—not the product.  Fee.

P.A.W.S. to Read. 3pm-4pm. Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA. Do you love dogs? Come and read to one of our resident therapy reading dogs! this reading program allows children to have a reading session with a therapy dog and their trainer. Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection. Every Saturday at Ginter Park Library. Romp n’ Roll Mechanicsville Kids Night Out.  6pm-9pm.  6300 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville VA 23111.  Every kid deserves a special night out…and so do you! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run and play with our energetic instructors and enjoy a pizza party dinner at Romp n’ Roll!
