All Month

Wicked Plants. Science Museum of Virginia.  Wicked Plants unearths 75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants inside of a dilapidated, Victorian home. Guests traverse through each room to uncover the biochemical, physical and neurological processes between botanicals and the human body.  Free with museum admission.  Through Sunday, May 17th.

Eye Bombing @ Your Library.  All Henrico County Libraries.  Entries for the annual Teen Tech Week digital art contest will be accepted Monday, February 2 thru Monday, March 2.  Create a work that displays an imaginative use of googly eyes. One free set of googly eyes is available for contest participants. Visit  for details.

Disney’s ALADDIN.  Tomahawk Creek Middle School Theatre.  Performed by Character Works.  Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! All of your favorite characters are here in this stage adaptation of the Disney hit, including Aladdin, Jasmine, and of course, the Genie. Young @ Art: Marks Like the Masters.  11am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 2 ½ – 5.  From dots to splatters to thick brushstrokes, be inspired by the painting techniques of master artists to create a colorful work of your own.  Fee.

Weekly Story Time.  Every Tuesday at 11am. Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Towne Center. Escape the winter weather with Story Time every week in February. Readings of classic tales from a wide range of books, hosting story–related activities and more.  Free.

Parenting in an Over-Sexualized World.  6pm.  Children’s Museum – Short Pump.  RVA Parents Forum Series discussion answering questions like: How can parents protect their kids in a hyper-sexualized culture? What’s the impact on children and their families? Are there best practices that parents can learn to open the lines of communication and talk to their kids about sexuality?  Fee.

Mommy and Me. 10am-11:30am. Willow Lawn – Outside on the Plaza. Join The Shops at Willow Lawn on the second Wednesday of every month as they host a free morning out with live entertainment and activities designed to enhance parents’ interaction with their children. Thursday, February 12th

Art Sparks in the Park.  9:30am-10:30am.  Dorey Recreation Center.  For ages 3-5 with an adult. Experience well-known artists and their techniques first hand! Van Gogh: “Starry Night” will be the inspiration for creating a mixed media “Sunny Day” landscape. Information: rin77@henrico.us.  Fee.

Henricus Home School Day – English Colonial History.  10am-2pm.   Henricus Historical Park.  For ages 4–14.  Experience a home school education program designed to help meet curriculum goals in a fun, interactive environment at a living history museum. Students will work on social studies and science activities, hands-on mapping skills and environmental projects featuring the lives and interactions of the Colonial settlers and Virginia Indians at early 17th-century contact on the James River. Students will be divided by age for appropriate activities and curriculum. Registration is required by February 6 by calling 804-318-8797.  Fee.  Cost: $12 for student; $8 for accompanying adult/Henricus Patrons $10 for student; accompanying adults free.

On the Horizon.  4:15pm-6 pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center. For ages 5 – 8.  As far as the eye can see is the horizon—where the sky and the land meet. Learn more about spatial relationships and illustrating objects in proportion.  Fee.

Perth Theatre Company, The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer. Gottwald Playhouse. A touching story of enduring love and the end of the world, the Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer is a multi-award winning, one-man, micro-epic puppet show that melds technology and multimedia. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Fee.

Friday, February 13th

Cupids in Art.  5pm-6:30pm.   Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Focus: Depicting Cupid, the God of Love, and other dramatic figures in art.  Fee.

Gilded Gifts.  5pm-7pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.   Recommended for children ages 5 – 12.  Who doesn’t love glitter and gold? Decorate family picture frames in gold leafing, add sparkly embellishments to keepsake boxes, and create other glamorous craft projects.  Fee.

Mad Science Parents Night Out. 6pm to 10pm. Want to get out without bringing the kids too? Enjoy a nice night out while Mad Science entertains your kids. But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t’ want to go back! The night will include pizza, a fun science activity, take home activities (slime and more), games, and a fun movie! The cost is $30 per child ($25 for additional siblings). Grades K – 5. Check the website for the list of scheduled topics and to register.

Arena Racing.  7pm.  Richmond Coliseum.   Drivers in ½ scale stock cars racing around a $1/2 million high-banked race track turning laps in UNDER 8 seconds flat while competing side-by-side–bumping, rubbing, flipping and racing in the Richmond Coliseum to get their share of over $50,000.00 in cash paid out over the season!  Go to the Coliseum an hour early for a driver meet & greet, included in the price of each ticket!  Fee.  Click here to enter a giveaway for a family 4 pack of tickets.  Enter by Noon on Feb 11th.

Virginia Aviation Museum Camp In: Boy Scouts Only.  7pm-9am.  Virginia Aviation Museum.  Camp In features activities designed to prepare Scouts for Webelos. If they have a Cub Scout Academics Belt Loop, they’ll be able to earn their Scientist Badge by learning about Bernoulli’s Principle and Newton’s Laws of Motion. Reservations required. For every four children, one adult chaperone is required.  Fee.

Lil’ Kookers: Valentine’s Day Special.  9am-11am.  Pole Green CC.  For ages: 5 to 14. What better way to say “Will You Be My Valentine” to your parents than some yummy Valentine’s Day treats. Have fun in the kitchen making heart shaped cookies, baked spaghetti with ground turkey, and a veggie medley.  Fee.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Black History Month Performance:  Elijah Coles-Brown.  11am and 1pm.  Children’s Museum – Central.  Impressive 10-year-old motivational speaker Elijah Coles-Brown will recite Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech and speak about what inspires and motivates him as a young boy.  Free with museum admission.

Style Weekly’s Kidz Connection & Camp Fair. Noon-3pm. Children’s Museum of Richmond – Central.

Valentine’s Kid’s Night Out.  6pm-9pm.  All Richmond Romp n’ Roll Locations.  Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart while the children run and play with our energetic instructors and enjoy a pizza party dinner at Romp n’ Roll. A perfect Valentine’s indeed! Ages 2 through 5. Potty training not required. 15 Cent Kids Days.  Children’s Museum of Richmond.  15¢ Kids Days will offer admission to children for 15¢ on the 15th of each month. Valid at all four locations (Central, Short Pump, Chesterfield, and Fredericksburg), the Museum will feature activities for the entire family – in addition to the play-filled, educational environment that families across Central Virginia have come to associate with CMoR.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President.  1:30pm-2:30pm. Three Lakes Nature Center.  For ages 4-5. Learn about two of our most beloved presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, where they were born, and how they grew up.
