PreschoolPalooza.  All Richmond Romp n’ Roll Locations.  Children ages 3 through 5 are invited to try Romp n’ Roll for free during the week of January 12th through January 18th. Free classes are available at all Richmond locations and Rompy’s Adventure, a 2 hour drop-off class, is only $5. Call 804-364-6363 to sign up for your class!

Virginia Repertory Theatre’s Introduction to the Magical World of Theatre.  The Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn, 1601 Willow Lawn Drive Richmond, VA 23230.  Experience books in a whole new way! Each Monday during the 6 week session classic stories come alive as they take a multisensory journey through a favorite work of children’s literature using age appropriate process-based creative drama.  Classes are offered at 10am or 1pm for $75 per a six week session. *An additional sibling discount is offered at $65 ($10 off the regular tuition price.)

What’s the Point? 4:15-6pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  3 sessions –  Jan 15, 22, 29.  For ages 9 – 12.  Become proficient at drawing one-point perspective and other techniques that will make your flat image appear 3D!  Fee.

Friday, January 16th

Science After Dark. 5pm-9pm. Science Museum of Virginia. Test your skills at gadget-making and Rube Goldberg machines! Step into The Dome at 6:30 pm for a Cosmic Expedition and stay for a special showing of Goonies at 8 pm. Venture outside to stargaze with the Richmond Astronomical Society or enjoy three floors of interactive exhibits.  $5 or free for Museum members and college students with a valid ID.

Target $1 Family Night.  5:30pm-7:30pm.  Children’s Museum – Central.    Bring the whole family to enjoy what The Children’s Museum’s Central Location has to offer for just $1 per person.

Mad Science Parents Night Out.  6pm- 10pm.   Mad Science Laboratory, 5500 Cox Road, Suite H, Glen Allen VA 23060.     Want to get out without bringing the kids too? Enjoy a nice night out while Mad Science entertains your kids. But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t’ want to go back! The night will include pizza, a fun science activity, take home activities (slime and more), games, and a fun movie! The Parents Night Out goes from 6 pm to 10 pm. Saturday, January 17th

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Virginia Opera’s The Princess and the Pea. 10am.   Gottwald Playhouse, Richmond CenterStage.   A humorous adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s famous story with a few modern twists. A young girl whose royal blood could only be confirmed by testing her sensitivity to a pea becomes a short opera sure to bring many laughs for young audiences. Just what tests will this young princess have to undergo to prove her lineage?  Fee.

LEGO Club.  1pm-3pm.  Bon Air Library, 9103 Rattlesnake Rd, Richmond, VA.  Bring your imagination for LEGO fun. Photos of completed creations will be displayed. The club meets on first Saturdays and is recommended for kids ages 6 to 11.  Free.

Life at Lee’s Headquarters.  1pm-3pm.  Dabbs House Museum.  Commemorate Lee’s 208th birthday by visiting his 1862 headquarters at Dabbs House Museum. Meet the General and his staff to learn a little more about the man and his relationship with those around him. House tours, reenactors, and children’s activities/crafts are provided.  Free.

Romp n’ Roll Mechanicsville Kids Night Out.  6pm-9pm.  6300 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville VA 23111.  Every kid deserves a special night out…and so do you! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run and play with our energetic instructors and enjoy a pizza party dinner at Romp n’ Roll! Arena Racing.  7pm.  Richmond Coliseum.   Drivers in ½ scale stock cars racing around a $1/2 million high-banked race track turning laps in UNDER 8 seconds flat while competing side-by-side–bumping, rubbing, flipping and racing in the Richmond Coliseum to get their share of over $50,000.00 in cash paid out over the season!  Go to the Coliseum an hour early for a driver meet & greet, included in the price of each ticket!  Fee.

Sunday, January 18th

Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Players.  11am.  CMoR – Central.  2-time Grammy nominee and named “Hands down the best songwriter in the genre” by USA Today!  Free with museum admission.
