Today – Saturday, January 3rd

Illuminate Light Show & Santa’s Village.   Nightly 5:30pm – 10:00pm.   The Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia.  A dazzling 1.5 mile drive-through synchronized light show. Guests will turn their radio to a special frequency and watch as the lights dance along with the music. At the conclusion of the drive, guests can visit Santa’s Village, which will include opportunities for photos with Santa, children’s activities and holiday treats for purchase.  Santa’s Village Dates: November 14, 2014 – December 24, 2014.  Open rain or shine, including all holidays.  Fee.

Bright Horizons Open House.  Bright Horizons at Short Pump, 102 Towne Center West Blvd, Richmond.  Drop by at your convenience and check out their program first hand.  Free.

Tuesday, November 18th

“Toddler Time”.  10:30-11am.  Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA, 23227.  FREE Interactive early literacy storytime with music and movement for ages 18-36 months with an adult. Frozen Musical Playdate.  6pm-6:40pm.  Melody Magic Music Studio.  Kids up to age 7 will love this musica playdate, based on the music from the popular Disney movie “Frozen!” We will use magic frozen wands to do a freeze dance (helping our inhibitory control, of course!), drum like we are cutting ice, dance and sing with microphones, and so much more. Your child will be THRILLED, and you will be ecstatic at how we use play to help your child learn! Feel free to dress up! Just $10/child, and advance registration is required. Wednesday, November 19th

Mad Science in Lab Workshop.  10am to 11am.  Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook.  Science workshops will be held  on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 10:00 AM at the  for Elementary age students. These workshops are perfect for homeschoolers. Workshops are $10 each, last approximately 60 minutes & include a take home science activity. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  7:30pm.  Richmond Coliseum.   TSO will perform the rock opera The Christmas Attic live for the first time in arenas across the nation on their Winter Tour 2014.  Fee.

Thursday, November 20th

Mad Science Preschool Workshop.  10am to 10:40am.  Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook.  Science preschool workshops will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 10 AM at the Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook for Preschool age students. Preschool workshops are $7 each, last approximately 40 minutes and include a take home science activity. Check the website for the list of scheduled topics and to register.

Beyond Boundaries.  4:15pm – 6 pm.  VMFA Art Education Center.  For ages 5 – 8.  With mixed media, anything goes! Push the limits in your own work after observing works of art that incorporate paint, drawing media, and other materials.  Fee.

Friday, November 21st

Fall Into Play: Read-Create-Move. 9:30am. The Steward School. (For preschoolers and their parents).  Fee.

Target $1 Night.  5pm-7:30pm.    Children’s Museum of Richmond – Central.  Bring the whole family to enjoy what The Children’s Museum has to offer from 5:00-7:30pm on the third Friday of every month for just $1 per person!

Silk Painting.   5pm – 7pm.  VMFA Art Education Center.  Recommended for children ages 5 – 12.  Explore traditional and modern approaches to the ancient Chinese art of silk painting!  Fee.

Mad Science Parents Night Out. 6pm to 10pm.  Want to get out without bringing the kids too? Enjoy a nice night our while Mad Science entertains your kids. But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t’ want to go back! The night will include pizza, a fun science activity, take home activities (slime and more), fun games and activities, and a fun movie! The Parents Night Out goes from 6 pm to 10 pm. The cost is $30 per child ($25 for additional siblings). Grades K – 5. Check the website for the list of scheduled topics and to register.

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting.  7pm.  Westchester Commons at 288 and Midlothina Turnpike.  Free horse drawn carriage rides, seasonal music, cookies and warm beverages.  Santa will appear.  The first 100 children, 10 and under, will receive a free giveaway.  The event is free and weather permitting.

Little English Smocked Clothing Warehouse Sale.

Center Season – Richmond’s Finest.  7pm.  Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen.  Richmond’s premier event of the year is bringing together Susan Greenbaum, Donna Meade, Robbin Thompson and the Richmond Symphony for a special evening of music that only they can offer. Three incredibly talented performers combined with the amazing sounds of the Richmond Symphony bring you a night of music beyond compare!  Fee.

Saturday, November 22nd

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

One Great Morning of Raking.  9am.  Maymont – Japanese Garden.  Please call ahead and bring your own rake!

Bright Horizons Renovation Celebration.  10am-1pm.  Bright Horizons at Short Pump, 102 Towne Center West Blvd, Richmond.  Explore the renovated center and enriched programs through hands on activities – Family Yoga, Science Lab Experiments, Art Studio Card Project, Healthy Snacks, Concert, Family Cooking Activity and more.  Can’t make the celebration – visit during the Open House Nov 17th – 21st (see details above).  Free.

Lego My Library.  10am-Noon.  Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA, 23227.  We will meet one Saturday a month to build, build, build! Shoot and edit your own LEGO Movie! Build on the virtual map with Build With Chrome! This activity is open to children ages 5 up. All Legos are provided. For questions and info. Call 804.646.1236.

Paws To R.E.A.D. Program.  10am – 12:30pm.  Ginter Park Library: 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA, 23227.  Do you love dogs? Come and read to Harvey, our resident Greyhound! Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection.
