The Chesterfield County Annual Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony.  2pm.  Chesterfield County Historic 1917 Courthouse Green on Iron Bridge Road.   Sponsored by the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia.  In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Chesterfield County Public Meeting Room.  Representatives of Veterans organizations throughout Chesterfield and surrounding counties have been invited to lay wreaths along the Veterans Memorial Wall in front of the 1917 County Courthouse.

Face to Face.  4:15pm – 6pm.  VMFA Art Education Center.  For ages 5 – 8.  After exploring the connection between Picasso’s cubist portraits and African figurative sculptures, look in a mirror and create an artwork in your own image!  Fee.

Henrico Community Band Holiday Concert. 7:30pm. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. For all ages. Join the Henrico Community Band as they present a variety of fall, winter, and holiday classics! Under the direction of Archer Johnson, this concert is for the entire family! Free.

Fall Into Play: Puppet Palooza. 9:30am. The Steward School.  (For preschoolers and their parents) Join us for hands-on activities that explore the tools needed for 21st-century problem solving.  Fee.

Generation Z – Fall into Fun! 6pm-8pm. Deep Run Recreation Center. For ages 6-12. Drop your kids off for an evening of fun, games and crafts, video games, air hockey, foosball, and more! Try your hand at wreath making, leaf rubbings, or beading. Parents or legal guardians must sign a liability waiver provided on site at the time of drop off. Space is limited to the first 50 children. Holly Jolly Christmas on Lakeside Avenue.  Join Lakeside-area merchants for a special holiday shopping event!  Take free trolley rides, meet Santa, shop for vintage treasures and browse the Farmer’s Market during a Holly Jolly Christmas on Lakeside Avenue. This Northside neighborhood is known as a unique shopping district with shops featuring home decor, clothing, antiques and vintage treasures, toys, gourmet food and beverages and much more. The event captures the feeling of yesteryear with a close-knit community vibe. More than two dozen businesses participate.

Friday, November 14th – Saturday, January 3rd

Illuminate Light Show & Santa’s Village.   Nightly 5:30pm – 10:00pm.   The Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia.  A dazzling 1.5 mile drive-through synchronized light show. Guests will turn their radio to a special frequency and watch as the lights dance along with the music. At the conclusion of the drive, guests can visit Santa’s Village, which will include opportunities for photos with Santa, children’s activities and holiday treats for purchase.  Santa’s Village Dates: November 14, 2014 – December 24, 2014.  Open rain or shine, including all holidays.  Fee.

Saturday, November 15th

LIVE Shows by Sid the Science Kid.  CMoR Chesterfield.  Sid enlists young scientists to help him find his magnifying glass using observation skills and a guessing game! Featuring songs that the whole family can sing along to: Sid The Science Kid Theme, I Magnify, I’m Looking for My Friends, and Wheels. Each LIVE performance is just 10 minutes- perfect for even the youngest scientist!  Throughout the day CMoR’s Educators will lead interactive hands-on science lessons including baking soda volcanoes, My 5 Senses, Gloop, and more!  Shows and science lessons are FREE with museum admission. No advance purchase required.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Commonwealth Connect Resource Fair.  9:30am-3:30pm.  Children’s Museum of Richmond – Central, 2626 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23220.   A Special Needs Resource Fair for Children and Families Throughout Central Virginia presented by the Children’s Museum of Richmond and The Faison School.  A free event for families, self-advocates, teachers and caregivers to come to one place and meet approximately 50 vendors who offer services for special needs individuals and families from the Richmond Metro Area.  FREE Museum Admission Included.

Paws To R.E.A.D. Program.  10am – 12:30pm.  Ginter Park Library: 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA, 23227.  Do you love dogs? Come and read to Harvey, our resident Greyhound! Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection.
