Plant Spooky.  King Dominion.  On Saturdays and Sundays from September 26 through November 1, bring the little ones to the all-new Planet Spooky for frightful fun and spooky activities the entire family can enjoy together. It’s all fun and no fear. Activities take place each day from 12pm – 5pm.

Monday, October 20th

Mini Mozarts: Music for Your Little One. 10am-11am. Bon Secours Love and Learn, 4121 Cox Rd Suite 115, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Hosted by Melody Magic Music Studio. Music is one of your baby’s favorite things – AND it’s one of the best things for your baby’s developing mind. This class will help parents of young babies understand the importance of music. Babies and parents will enjoy participating in musical activities with Ms. Katherine, the owner of Melody Magic Music Studio, in a calm, baby-safe environment. Ages 0-18 months, with a caregiver. Wednesday, October 22th

Greek Creations.  4:15pm-6pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center. For ages 5 – 8.  Use an ancient Greek amphora, created centuries ago, for inspiration to create your own original vase with air-dry clay and paint.  Fee.

Tweeners.  7-9:30pm.  CPR Office, 8500 Bell Creek Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.   If you have a child between the ages of 9 and 13, you will love this class. Chocked full of information, you will be amazed at what you learn about this roller coaster ride we call “puberty”. Fear not, “Tweeners” is not about armpit hair and pimples. It’s about the fully loaded change your “baby” is engaged in as she/he transitions from childhood and how all of that changes “who” your child becomes at home and at school.  Fee.

A Spooktacular Halloween Concert.  7:30pm.   Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs.   Join the Henrico Community Band as they present a fun and spooky evening of music for the entire family. The costumed band will play a variety of Halloween music just in time for trick or treat. Bring the kids in costume and everyone walks away with a goody bag of treats! Reservations can be made by phone 328-4491.

Friday, October 24th

Taylor’s SpookieFun Fest.  6pm-9pm.  Poor Farm Park, 13400 Liberty School Rd. Ashland, Va 23005.  Families with children 11 and under, this free fun night is just for you.   Kids, wear your favorite costume and join Taylor and friends for flashlight toy and candy hunts (hunts throughout the evening), trick or treat booths, rides, games and activities. Children can move and groove in Taylors ‘Lil’ Frankenstein’s Monster Mash Bash’ dance area. Concession items and novelty food items will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring a flashlight and bag for all your trick or treat goodies.  Plus, at the conclusion of the last flashlight candy hunt (approximately 7:30 p.m.), your whole family can view the movie Monster House (PG) on the giant inflatable screen from the comfort of your vehicle or feel free to bring lawn chairs and a blanket.

Mad Science Parents Night Out. 6pm-10pm.  Mad Science Laboratory, 5500 Cox Road, Suite H, Glen Allen VA 23060.  Want to get out without bringing the kids too? Enjoy a nice night our while Mad Science entertains your kids. But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t’ want to go back! The night will include pizza, a fun science activity, take home activities (slime and more), games, and a fun movie! The cost is $30 per child ($25 for additional siblings). Grades K – 5. Generation Z – Halloween! 6pm-8pm. Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. For ages 6-12. Drop your kids off for an evening of fun. Kids wear costumes for a spooky night of games, crafts, and activities. Participate in a costume contest, pumpkin bowling, or dance to the monster mash! Parents or legal guardians must sign a liability waiver provided on site at the time of drop off. Halloween Bash – Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm.  Pump It Up, Hanover, VA.  Fee.

Haunted Courthouse Green.  Scheduled tours on the hour, 7 p.m.-10 p.m.    Trinity Church, 10111 Iron Bridge Road.  Spend an evening on the historic Courthouse Green and discover the haunting history of Chesterfield. Take a guided lantern tour of the grounds and hear ghost stories from long ago. Historical vignettes will be set up on the Courthouse Green, in the Chesterfield Museum and 1892 Jail. Talk to Paranormal Investigators at Trinity Church and learn about their recent investigations. This program will be fun for the entire family. Refreshments will be served.  Space is limited, preregistration required in advance.   Fee.

Friday Night Movie at the Pumpkin Patch.  7pm movie start time.  Tom Leonard’s Outdoor Haybale Theatre, 4150 Tom Leonard Drive, Glen Allen, VA.  Tonight – ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown’.  Dress Warm, Hot Chocolate, Warm Cider.  Free.

Saturday, October 25th

Multiples Family Day at Kings Dominion.   16000 Theme Park Way, Doswell, VA.  Twins, triplets, quads (etc) and their friends and family can get a discounted ticket price ($34 dollars, ages 2 and under are free).   (IncludesPlanet Spooky for the little ones & Halloween Haunt for the fearless).  Hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University’s Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry (MATR).   Tickets available online only. Call FCU Marathon Jr. A fun running event for ages 4 to 14 taking place in Byrd Park. Costumes are welcome for the 1/2 and one-mile races. Fee.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Spooky Party 2014.  10am-4pm.  Select Children’s Museum of Richmond locations.  Have some not-so-spooky fun at your favorite CMoR satelite location! Featuring your little one’s favorite princesses, themed games, and give-aways!  This event is free with museum admission.

Kids Fall Fest.  10am-2pm.  Whole Food Short Pump.  Kids can meet Curious George.  Visit the store or call for meet and greet times.  Food proceeds from the Fest will benefit Virginia PTA.

Innsbrook Pumpkin Palooza.  10am-4pm.  Dunk your pumpkin via catapult, trebuchet or cross bow into Lake Rooty at this family-friendly event. And, don’t forget to dress up in your favorite costume to celebrate in a big way with activities that appeal to families as well as goblins of all ages. “Kids Zone”, costume contests, great food and craft vendors. Free to attend. Benefiting American Cancer Society’s Making Strides campaign.  Fun for all ages.

Just Say BOO! A Musical Costume Party!   10am-10:40am.  Melody Magic Music Studio, 3041 Lauderdale Drive.  Come join us for a musical playdate for children ages 0-7 years! This is a perfect fit for this time of year! Feel free to come dressed up as a princess, prince, pirate, superhero, animal, or anything you like! Fancy Me Mad: Tales from Edgar Allen Poe + Graveyard Tour.  6pm – 8pm.  St. John’s Church, 2401 E. Broad Street Richmond, 23223.  Tales from Edgar Allen Poe followed by a self-guided walking tour of the graveyard.  Among the spirits represented: Edgar’s mother Eliza Poe, George Wythe and his murderous nephew, and Elizabeth Van Lew – Union spy.  Fee.

Union First Market Bank LolliPops.  11am.  Richmond Symphony: Beethoven Lives Upstairs.  The world-famous production of Beethoven Lives Upstairs features a lively exchange of letters between young Christoph and his uncle. Audiences are captivated by more than 25 excerpts of the master’s music, including the Moonlight Sonata, Für Elise, and the great Fifth and Ninth Symphonies.  The performance includes a pre-concert festival with a musical instrument petting zoo and other activities for young audiences. Pre-concert festivals take place in Rhythm Hall one hour prior to concert.  Fee.

Family Fright Night.  5pm-8pm.  Bensley Community Building, 2900 Drewry’s Bluff Road.  Bring all the ghost and goblins out for a fun evening of music, carnival games, prizes, trick-or-treating and much more. Sunday, October 26th

Goblins and Gourds.  1pm-4pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Celebrate harvest-time in the Children’s Garden with a concert by the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra, pumpkin painting, seasonal food tasting, hoop dancing and more! It’s a great chance to get outside, be active and enjoy the beauty of the season.  Regular Garden admission.

Children’s Movie Day. 1pm. Hull Street Library, City of Richmond. This month’s showing is “Frankenweenie.”

Halloween Haunt.  King Dominion.  Each weekend night, Kings Dominion transforms into a horror-filled nightmare.  Lots of new attractions for 2014.  From mazes with terrifying creatures around every corner to thrill rides that’ll haunt your dreams, it’s everything you fear and can’t wait to experience. Not for anyone under 13.  Fee.

Every Friday and Saturday Night through November 22nd

Petersburg Haunts Tour.  7pm.   Petersburg Courthouse, Petersburg, VA.   Meet at the Courthouse, 7 Courthouse Ave., 15 minutes before the tour starts at 7pm.  Find out why Petersburg is such a “spirited” city and visit some of the town’s most historic buildings. 90 minute tours are led by costumed, lantern-carrying storytellers. 804-943-8635.  Fee.

Creepy Hollow Scream Park.  Opens at 7pm.  Creepy Hollow Scream Park is Richmond’s Ultimate Halloween destination, with more monsters, more frights and more fun! Eerie Nights Ghost Tour.  8pm & 10pm.  Main Street Side of the 17th Street Farmers Market.  Eerie Nights is a theatrical story telling experience where guides in character, special effects make-up and costume tell you the history and paranormal activity associated with several historical and haunted locations.  Fee.

Saturday nights through October

Ghouls Ghost Tours.  9pm.  A Trolley Tour.  Main Street Side of the 17th Street Farmers Market (with Eerie Nights Tours).  Tours are geared towards a mature audience but families are welcome. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Begins October 3rd

Haunted Evenings.  Ashland Berry Farm.  4 all new haunts: Booger Woods, Morbid Manor, Old Ridge Asylum, and Sinister Sideshow.  Haunted events all month long.  Fee.
