All Month

Plant Spooky.  King Dominion.  On Saturdays and Sundays from September 26 through November 1, bring the little ones to the all-new Planet Spooky for frightful fun and spooky activities the entire family can enjoy together. It’s all fun and no fear. Activities take place each day from 12pm – 5pm.

Poe: Secrets of a Spirit.  1:30pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Meet the Edgar Allan Poe you never knew in this dynamic Carpenter Science Theatre Company production.  Available select dates.   Fee.

Saturday, October 18th

Come Trunk or Treat with RichmondMommies. 10 am-12pm. In the parking lot of Grace Covenant Prebyterian Church. There will be pumpkin painting, carnival style games, chili and dessert contests, and cookie decorating. There will be a contest for the best decorated trunk and the best Halloween costume, and donations will be accepted for Safe Harbor. Hosted by RichmondMommies.com.

Harvest Festival.  Noon-4pm.  Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park.   Visit historic 19th-century Meadow Farm to celebrate the fall season with traditional harvest-time activities. Harvest Festival will feature many hands-on activities and demonstrations depicting typical homemaking and farming tasks of the era. Take a wagon ride as you are pulled by a steam driven tractor and then check out the All-American Lumberjack Show! The whole family will enjoy hand-pressing apples to make cider, dipping string into wax to create your own candle, riding a pony, viewing the vintage carriage display, and meeting sheep at the “Children’s Farm.” Be sure to visit the “Great Pumpkin Patch” where children ages 3-12 can pick out their very own pumpkin to take home! Sunday October 19th

Howl-O-Ween. 1pm-3pm. Stony Point Fashion Park. Dress up your family and your dog & join Stony Point Fashion Park for an afternoon of spooky fun. Events include a dog costume contest and family festivities. Family Activities include pumpkin painting, balloon creations, children’s crafts and a special performance by Richmond Ballet’s Minds In Motion Team XXL.

Tuesday, October 21st

Halloween Party. 7pm-8pm. Varina Library, Henrico County. Calling all ghosts and ghouls! Join us for our annual Halloween Party. We’ll have stories from a witch, a craft and refreshments. Wear your costume! Free.

Thursday, October 23rd

A Spooktacular Halloween Concert.  7:30pm.   Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs.   Join the Henrico Community Band as they present a fun and spooky evening of music for the entire family. The costumed band will play a variety of Halloween music just in time for trick or treat. Bring the kids in costume and everyone walks away with a goody bag of treats! Reservations can be made by phone 328-4491.

Friday, October 24th

Taylor’s SpookieFun Fest.  6pm-9pm.  Poor Farm Park, 13400 Liberty School Rd. Ashland, Va 23005.  Families with children 11 and under, this free fun night is just for you.   Kids, wear your favorite costume and join Taylor and friends for flashlight toy and candy hunts (hunts throughout the evening), trick or treat booths, rides, games and activities. Children can move and groove in Taylors ‘Lil’ Frankenstein’s Monster Mash Bash’ dance area. Concession items and novelty food items will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring a flashlight and bag for all your trick or treat goodies.  Plus, at the conclusion of the last flashlight candy hunt (approximately 7:30 p.m.), your whole family can view the movie Monster House (PG) on the giant inflatable screen from the comfort of your vehicle or feel free to bring lawn chairs and a blanket.

Mad Science Parents Night Out. 6pm-10pm.  Mad Science Laboratory, 5500 Cox Road, Suite H, Glen Allen VA 23060.  Want to get out without bringing the kids too? Enjoy a nice night our while Mad Science entertains your kids. But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t’ want to go back! The night will include pizza, a fun science activity, take home activities (slime and more), games, and a fun movie! The cost is $30 per child ($25 for additional siblings). Grades K – 5. Generation Z – Halloween! 6pm-8pm. Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. For ages 6-12. Drop your kids off for an evening of fun. Kids wear costumes for a spooky night of games, crafts, and activities. Participate in a costume contest, pumpkin bowling, or dance to the monster mash! Parents or legal guardians must sign a liability waiver provided on site at the time of drop off. Halloween Bash – Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm.  Pump It Up, Hanover, VA.  Fee.

Haunted Courthouse Green.  Scheduled tours on the hour, 7 p.m.-10 p.m.    Trinity Church, 10111 Iron Bridge Road.  Spend an evening on the historic Courthouse Green and discover the haunting history of Chesterfield. Take a guided lantern tour of the grounds and hear ghost stories from long ago. Historical vignettes will be set up on the Courthouse Green, in the Chesterfield Museum and 1892 Jail. Talk to Paranormal Investigators at Trinity Church and learn about their recent investigations. This program will be fun for the entire family. Refreshments will be served.  Space is limited, preregistration required in advance.   Fee.

Spooky Party 2014.  10am-4pm.  Select Children’s Museum of Richmond locations.  Have some not-so-spooky fun at your favorite CMoR satelite location! Featuring your little one’s favorite princesses, themed games, and give-aways!  This event is free with museum admission.

Kids Fall Fest.  10am-2pm.  Whole Food Short Pump.  Kids can meet Curious George.  Visit the store or call for meet and greet times.  Food proceeds from the Fest will benefit Virginia PTA.

Innsbrook Pumpkin Palooza.  10am-4pm.  Dunk your pumpkin via catapult, trebuchet or cross bow into Lake Rooty at this family-friendly event. And, don’t forget to dress up in your favorite costume to celebrate in a big way with activities that appeal to families as well as goblins of all ages. “Kids Zone”, costume contests, great food and craft vendors. Sunday, October 26th

Goblins and Gourds.  1pm-4pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Celebrate harvest-time in the Children’s Garden with a concert by the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra, pumpkin painting, seasonal food tasting, hoop dancing and more! It’s a great chance to get outside, be active and enjoy the beauty of the season.  Regular Garden admission.

Fall Festival. 5pm to 9pm. West End Assembly of God Church, 401 N. Parham Rd. Richmond, VA 23229 – Fun family carnival that is great for all ages! Activities include small children’s games, inflatable rides, micro reality racing, gyrosphere, petting zoo, horse rides and LOTS of candy! Kidgits Halloween Spooktacular. 6pm-8pm.  Virginia Center Commons.  Calling all little ghouls, goblins and boo’tiful princesses to come have a spooktacular time. Kidgits is teaming up with Captain McFinn to recognize October as Bully Prevention Month. A free app called The Bully Free zone will be available for download and you could win a free iPad Air.  Fun activities and giveaways!

Monster Mash 6pm-9pm.  Dorey Recreation Center.  Dorey will be transformed into a mad science lab to celebrate the hair-raising fun of fall with Frankenstein and Igor at this year’s Monster Mash event! Watch science come to life with performances by Mad Science of Central VA and feel your way through the creepy crafty “Sensational Laboratory.” Outside, take a trip to the pond for the newly designed “Haunted Trail” and sit around the fire to hear spooky stories and drink cider. Halloween – El Dia de los Muertos.  Noon-4pm.  Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center.  In conjunction with the Latin Ballet of Virginia, The Center invites the community to this celebration with music, dancing, arts & crafts and sweets-and-treats. “Dia de los Muertos” is a Festive Celebration of Life. Join in the festivities by wearing your Halloween costume! This event is free and open to the public.  For all ages!   Free.

Richmond’s Eerie Canal Tours. 6pm-9pm. Canal Turning Basin – Dock and 14th Streets. Venture Richmond hosts a very special night of FREE hauntingly-narrated canal boat tours complete with free candy for the little ones! Special 30-minute tours leave every half hour (on the hour and half hour) from 6:00-9:00 p.m., with the last boat departing at 8:30 p.m. Boats depart from the Canal Turning Basin at 14th and Dock Streets. The Eerie Canal Tours feature haunting tales of Richmond’s past as passengers travel down the historic Kanawha Canal, drifting through the spooky sights and sounds of Richmond’s oldest and most historically haunted districts. The canal is decorated for Halloween like you’ve never seen before, and little ghouls and ghosts in attendance will receive a special candy treat. It’s a Halloween event for the whole family! Pumpkin Madness Weekend.  Chesterfield Berry Farm.  A grand finale to the pumpkim season.  Bring your old jack-o-lanterns and drop them in the Drop Zone, smash them with the Dozer, impale them on the Spike Wall and squish them with the Squash Squisher.  All other fal activities will be offered as well.  Fee.

Petersburg Haunts Tour.  7pm.   Petersburg Courthouse, Petersburg, VA.   Meet at the Courthouse, 7 Courthouse Ave., 15 minutes before the tour starts at 7pm.  Find out why Petersburg is such a “spirited” city and visit some of the town’s most historic buildings. 90 minute tours are led by costumed, lantern-carrying storytellers. 804-943-8635.  Fee.

Creepy Hollow Scream Park.  Opens at 7pm.  Creepy Hollow Scream Park is Richmond’s Ultimate Halloween destination, with more monsters, more frights and more fun! Join us for Richmond’s legendary Creepy Hollow Hayride and dare to venture into Scream Forest, the most intense haunt in Virginia! Eerie Nights Ghost Tour.  8pm & 10pm.  Main Street Side of the 17th Street Farmers Market.  Eerie Nights is a theatrical story telling experience where guides in character, special effects make-up and costume tell you the history and paranormal activity associated with several historical and haunted locations.  Fee.

Saturday nights through October

Ghouls Ghost Tours.  9pm.  A Trolley Tour.  Main Street Side of the 17th Street Farmers Market (with Eerie Nights Tours).  Tours are geared towards a mature audience but families are welcome. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Haunted Evenings.  Ashland Berry Farm.  4 all new haunts: Booger Woods, Morbid Manor, Old Ridge Asylum, and Sinister Sideshow.  Haunted events all month long.  Fee.
