Today – Sunday, May 11th

Be the Dinosaur.   A new exhibit at the Science Museum of Virginia.  Check out an animatronic dinosaur and a pterosaur reconstruction as you discover what life was like for dinosaurs. Included with exhibit admission, free for members.

Today – September 30th

Water Play.  Weekdays 1pm-4:45pm.  Saturdays and Sundays 9am-4:45pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.   During warm spring, summer, and fall days, the Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Don’t forget a towel and remember that swimming diapers are required for those not potty-trained. Water Play is operational when the air temperature is 70 degrees or higher.  April 21 – Sept 30. (weather permitting).  Free with garden admission.

Garden Art Studio.  1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Work alongside staff artist, Katelyn Coyle, in the colorful Garden Art Studio located beside the Hidden Tunnel. Drop-in and unfold your creative energy. Use provided materials to collaborate, explore and reflect on your own Garden experience.  Free with Garden admission.

Tuesday, May 6th

May KIDS CLUB.  9:30am-10:30am.  Chesterfield Towne Center Food Court.  Plenty of fun and light refreshments.

Wednesday, May 7th

Drop in and Dig!  1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Families with children are invited to drop-in and participate in simple, easy to learn gardening tasks under the guidance of Children’s Garden staff and volunteers. These family-oriented gardening experiences can easily be enjoyed at home. So join us to learn how much fun gardening with children can be!

Mother’s Day Tea.  1pm.  Magnolia Grange, 10020 Iron Bridge Road.  Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at Magnolia Grange for a specialty tea and presentation. Sandra Justiss will conduct a presentation and portray Martha Washington. Finger sandwiches, dessert and tea provided. Tours of the house will be offered and the gift shop will be open. Thursday, May 8th

Pop Art Table.  4:15pm-6pm VMFA Art Education Center.  Ages 5-8.  Find out how popular items like cereal boxes and soup cans, along with bold colors and shapes, are used in Pop Art. Create vibrant Pop Art-inspired works of your own.  Pre-registration required.  Fee.

And I Mean it! Using Logical Consequences (Parents of Children 5-11 yrs).  6pm.  Delivered by Commonwealth Parenting.  Fee.

Friday, May 9th

Architecture in RVA.  5pm-6:30pm.  VMFA Art Education Center.  Grades 9-12.  Perspective drawing and architectural elements within Richmond’s Museum District.  Fee.

Sensational Shrinky Dinks.  5pm-7pm.  VMFA Art Education Center.  Enjoy a magical evening in the studio making key chains, coasters, picture frames, jewelry, and more.  Fee.

National Public Gardens Day. On this day designed to promote awareness of public gardens, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will have its historic Bloemendaal House open to the public (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.) with free tours by knowledgeable Garden Guides (please note: regular admission is required.) Guests will learn more about the history of property as the Lakeside Wheel (or bicycle) Club built in the 1890s.  Free with garden admission.

New! Family Campout: A Night Under the Stars.  6:30pm-9:00am.  Maymont Grounds.  Fee.

Camp In.  7pm-9am.  Science Museum of Richmond.   Join in special hands-on activities, see a giant screen film in The Dome and explore three floors of interactive exhibits! Recommended for grades 3-6. For every four children, one adult chaperone is required. $45 per child, with $5 discount per member child; $20 per adult. Pre-registration is required. Saturday, May 10th

Fredericksburg Opening.  CMoR has opened a fourth location in Fredericksburg!  It will offer exciting new exhibits, programs, and more!

The James River Rambler.  Take a scenic train ride with the kids.  90 minutes to the station from Richmond.  Trips are 1.5 hours or 3.5 hours.  Visit the website for more details.  Sponsored by the Old Dominion Chapter of NRHS.

Flower Delivery Truck.  10am.  Mother’s Day is right around the corner! Bring your child to Lowe’s and they can build this cool Flower Delivery Truck. Add a flower and it’s the perfect way to deliver a special gift to Mom!  Pre-registration required.  Free.

Summer Camp Preview with Engineering For Kids of Central VA.  10am-Noon.  Melody Magic Music Studio 3041 Lauderdale Dr, Henrico, VA 23233.  Bring the family to preview the fun and exciting camps Engineering For Kids will be offering this summer. Learn how your child can be a pirate, medieval knight, robotics engineer, or game designer!  For the whole family.  Free.

Sunday, May 11th

Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure.  John Paul Jones Arena.  Fee.

Mother’s Day Concert with Glenroy Bailey & Co. 1pm-4pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Food available for purchase in front of Bloemendaal House. Guests are also welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs but no outside food or beverage.  Activities in the Children’s Garden include “make-and-takes” for mom: make a Mother’s Day card and a flower made of recycled material (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.).   Free with garden admission.

Mother’s Day Concert.  3pm-4pm.  Stony Point Fashion Park.  Join the Central Virginia Wind Symphony in the Park District for a Mother’s Day Concert.  Free.

Richmond Symphony.   Pocahontas State Park.  Bring the whole family and listen to great classical music in the great outdoors. The show is free except for a $5 parking fee.
