Join Virginia Rep this summer for camp!  Their unique and fun day camps provide an exciting and comprehensive understanding of professional theatre performance and production for students from preschool through 10th grade. With instruction by some of Virginia’s finest theatre artists and educators, your dramatic student will have a theatrical experience like no other! Summer Camp Sessions

Dramatic Adventures Half-Day Camp for Preschoolers

For 3 to 5 year olds at the Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn

Session One: Go, Dog. Go! June 30 – July 3 (four days)
Monday – Thursday 9:30am – 12:00pm
Tuition: $100

Session Two: Charlotte’s Web Aug 4 – 8 (one week)
Monday – Friday 9:30am – 12:00pm
Tuition: $125

New this year! Dramatic Adventures half-day camp is the ideal first theatre camp for your preschool aged child. Stories come alive through process-based creative drama as we use our bodies, voices, and imaginations to embark on a multi-sensory journey through a favorite book. Each day your child will enjoy music, movement, and craft activities, as well as a snack. On Friday the Dramatic Adventurers will invite their parents into the theatre to share what they have learned throughout the week.

For Rising 1st – 6th Graders at the Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn

Session One: June 16 – 27 (two weeks)
Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm*
Tuition: $525

Session Two: Aug 25 – 29 (one week)
Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm*
Tuition: $275

At Stage Explorers Summer Camp, your child will learn everything it takes to put on a show in a professional theatre. From center stage to backstage, no corner of the Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn goes unexplored as campers learn about singing, acting, dancing, lights, sound, sets, and everything in between!

Stage Explorers Campers will spend their mornings rotating between hour-long singing, acting, and dance classes taught by some of Richmond’s leading theatre professionals. Afternoons at camp will give students first-hand experience with design and production through technical theatre workshops and projects. Led by Virginia Rep’s own production staff and designers, this year’s workshops will cover topics such as: scenic design, costuming, stage makeup, lighting and sound design, etc.

At the end of their session, campers will produce and perform in a Stage Explorers Showcase for all of their friends and family. No auditions required! There’s a role for everyone at this fun-filled camp, full of exploration, investigation and imagination!

Young Performers Institute

For Rising 7th – 10th Graders at Virginia Rep Center downtown

July 7 – 18 (two weeks)

Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm

Tuition: $525

A more mature, in-depth version of our Stage Explorers Summer Camp, Young Performers Institute will give your middle or early high school student professional opportunities to dive deep into theatrical performance and design.

Young Performers Institute participants will receive professional instruction and coaching in a wide variety of intensive acting classes as well as seminars on special topics such as musical theatre audition technique, stage combat, and theatrical design/production. For the first time, YPI will take place at the Virginia Rep Center in downtown Richmond, allowing greater access to the professional facility including the historic November Theatre, costume shop and storage, scene shop and prop storage . . .

The two-week program will culminate with a final showcase for family and friends where campers will perform scenes, monologues, and improvisational acting games that they have worked on during camp. No audition or previous experience is required: an interest and enthusiasm for the stage are all your Young Performer needs to have a great time!

Summer Showtime! Day Camp

For Rising 3rd – 10th Graders at the Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn

August 11 – 22 (two weeks)
Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm

Performances: Friday, August 22 at 5:30, Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 and 2:00
Auditions: March 8 and May 17, 11:00am – 2:00pm

Tuition: $600

Our brand new performance camp is designed with the musical theatre lover in mind. This is your child’s opportunity to experience a professional level rehearsal process culminating with multiple performances on the Children’s Theatre of Virginia stage, all within the span of just two weeks! Specific musical to be announced soon…

Each day will begin with fun group warm-ups preparing our voices, bodies and minds for rehearsal. As the day continues this talented group of campers will learn music, choreography, and all of their lines while working together as an ensemble cast and developing lasting friendships.

After the intensive two weeks of camp, the Summer Showtime cast will be ready to take their places in the spotlight with the whole package – costumes, props, set, lights and music.

Each camper will receive two complimentary performance tickets. Additional tickets will be available for the public to purchase through the box office.

Two auditions will be held in advance of Summer Showtime!

Join us for open call auditions on either March 8 or May 17 from 11:00 to 2:00 at the Children’s Theatre of Virginia. Prepare a one minute song and come ready to dance!

Please bring a photo with the auditionee’s name written on the back, as well as sheet music for our accompanist or a cd without vocals.

Curtain Up/Lights Out℠ Overnight Campva rep camps_overnight_2012_mask_sb

Virginia Rep invites kids to have the ultimate theatrical experience – a sleep over at one of our theaters! Campers will participate in theater workshops such as stage-make up, costumes, acting, technical theater and so much more! You’ll also get to see a live performance of one of our Children’s Season of Virginia productions. Breakfast is provided.

Curtain Up/Lights Out℠ is a group event. A minimum of 10 children per group is required.
