Shrek, The Musical.  Children’s Theatre of Virginia.  The timeless fairytale of rescued damsel in distress takes many fun and quirky twists as the green and stinky swampland ogre saves Princess Fiona and wins her love.  The show lasts about two hours with intermission and is best enjoyed by children 5 years and older.  Visit the website for show times and fees.  Today – April 27th.

Be the Dinosaur.   A new exhibit at the Science Museum of Virginia.  Check out an animatronic dinosaur and a pterosaur reconstruction as you discover what life was like for dinosaurs. Included with exhibit admission, free for members.  Today – Sunday, May 11th

Mickey Mouse Mania!  10:00-10:40am.  CMOR Short Pump.  M-I-C-K-E-Y… it’s everyone’s favorite guy! Come have a musical morning of fun, all centered around Mickey Mouse!  Dance, sing, and play instruments to all your favorite Mickey Mouse (and Minnie!) songs! This one is a kid favorite, so be sure to enroll now to save your spot!  This class is held at CMOR Short Pump, so you must either be a member or pay the daily admission. Ages 0-7 years, with a parent. Advance registration required. $5/child.

Garden Art Studio.  1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Work alongside staff artist, Katelyn Coyle, in the colorful Garden Art Studio located beside the Hidden Tunnel. Drop-in and unfold your creative energy. Use provided materials to collaborate, explore and reflect on your own Garden experience.  Free with Garden admission.

To The Rescue!  4:00-4:40pm.  CMOR Short Pump.  It’s a new twist on firetrucks and police cars — a musical twist! Using super-cool rescue-themed songs, kids will pretend to be firemen (and women!), race to the rescue, drive some “firetrucks” (using hula hoops of course!), play some instruments, and more! You won’t want to miss this one — it’s a favorite! Job Club 4 Teens!  5:00- 6:30pm.  Main Library, City of Richmond.  Get motivated, and stay motivated, to be successful in your job search! Experts from career developing organizations will conduct workshops for those who are interested in earning extra cash during the break.  This job club provides tips on building a successful resume, how to dress and act for an interview. Members Only: Monster Mashup Art Workshops.  1pm and 3pm.  Get ready for the upcoming How to Make a Monster exhibition by bringing to life your own clay monster! Sign up for a one-hour workshop. Earth Day Global Sounds.  3pm.  North Court Courtyard, University of Richmond.  Join the University of Richmond in celebrating traditional music and dance from around the world. This free, family-friendly concert features Japanese, Indonesian, West African, Indian, and Brazilian music and dance performances by local and visiting music ensembles. Audiences will be given an opportunity after the concert to see and interact with the instruments, including the gamelan and drums.  Free.

Easter Egg Hunt at The Richmond Spiders Spring Game.  12:30pm Hunt, 1pm Game.  U of R, Milhiser Green.   A fun-filled day with a Family Fun Zone, chances to win prizes, post game autographs, and a egg hunt.  The Easter Egg hunt is open to children age 13 and under, prizes for collecting the most eggs, special prize for finding the golden egg and prize winners will be recognized on the field during the game.  To register for the Easter Egg hunt, please email your child’s first name, last name and age to SpidersKidsClub@richmond.edu.

TLCC Spring Community EGG-STRAVAGANZA.  Noon – 3pm.   Easter egg hunt for children ages 2-12, with face painting, games, and food.  The food consist of hot dogs with chips and a drink.  Cost: Children eat free, $2.00 donation for all others.  The TLCC Outreach Ministry will be providing free professional haircuts to the young boys that participate in the Egg-Stravaganza from 10:00 am – 12 noon in the Fellowship Hall.  Please contact Bro. Easter Weekend with Peter Rabbit.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Peter Rabbit greets visitors and poses for photographs (both days 1 – 4 p.m.). Easter Eggstravaganza.  Kings Dominon.  Highlights include an Easter EGGsploration scavenger hunt, petting zoo, Easter crafts, photo opportunities with Eggward  the Easter Bunny and more!  With park admission.

Sunday, April 20th

Easter on Parade.  1pm-5pm.  Monument Avenue between Allen Avenue and Davis Avenue.  Each year more than 25,000 people converge upon the four-block site to celebrate the arrival of spring and the beauty of Monument Avenue, taking this once-a-year opportunity to stroll in the streets. Music, arts, crafts, children’s activities, food, balloon artistry, a petting zoo and, of course, people and pet watching are all part of the celebration.  Free.
