Butterflies LIVE!  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Visitors have the opportunity to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures – watch them fly, feed and flutter all around you.  Free with Garden Admission.

Water Play at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  During warm spring, summer, and fall days, the Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Swimming diapers are required for those not potty-trained.  Water Play is operational when the air temperature is 70 degrees or higher. Henrico Concert Band in the Park.  7-8pm. Dorey Park (2999 Darbytown Road, Henrico, VA 23231).  Bring a blanket or lawn chair and spend a casual evening in the park by the lake listening to your favorite band music! Garden Explorations for FamiliesGarden Dwellers. 10:15am. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Children (all ages) with accompanying adult. Enjoy story time and a fun-filled adventure while exploring different areas of the Garden. Observe your surroundings using a variety of hands-on activities and take-home treasures. Drop in and Dig!  9am.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  Families with children are invited to drop-in and participate in simple, easy to learn gardening tasks under the guidance of Children’s Garden staff and volunteers. These family-oriented gardening experiences can easily be enjoyed at home. So join us to learn how much fun gardening with children can be!   Free with Garden Admission.

Mega-Monsters: Dinosaurs.  10am-11am.  .  Three Lakes Nature Center.  Join nature center staff as we open up the classroom doors to visitors with a variety of items/treasures from the nature collections. Staff will be on hand, presenting information and answering questions.  For all ages.  Free.

Good Green Fun.  11am.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Families with children of all ages are invited to spend some time in the Children’s Garden listening to story books, gardening, participating in walkabouts and having good green fun.  Free with garden admission.

Life Stage – theatre.  11am.  Ha’Penny Stage, Dogwood Dell Park, City of Richmond.  A special children’s series performance on the Ha’Penny Stage at the 57th Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell.  Free.

Chinese Folk Dance Troupe.  7pm-8pm.  Deep Run Recreation Center, 9910 Ridgefield Parkway, Henrico, VA 23233.  An evening of Chinese culture and entertainment. Accompanied by traditional music, The Chinese Folk Dance Club will perform Red Ribbon Dance, Yang Ge Dances, and more from various regions of China. Performers will be dressed in beautiful elegant attire from head to toe. The evening will conclude with a social to meet the dancers.  For all ages.  Free.

Make a Home Depot Load ‘n Go Truck.  9am-Noon. Home Depot Stores. FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered at all The Home Depot stores. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.  Register online.

Family Fest.  10am-9pm.   Chesterfield Towne Center.  The day-long festival that rolls throughout the entire mall features countless exhibitors and includes a fashion show free to the public showcasing all the latest fashion trends. Look for exciting interactive events and demonstrations. There will be live entertainment along with sports, fitness, and fun performances, culminating in a Live Richmond “Singing Voice” competition!  Bring the family out for products, services, incentives and contests related to:  Home products, Health, Fitness, Medical, Wellness & Sports, “Kids Corner”,   Education, Fashion & Beauty, “BoomTown,” Family Leisure & Entertainment.  Free.

Fan Appreciation Day at the Washington Redskins Training Camp. Noon-2pm.  In addition to the opportunity to watch practice, the Redskins will offer special events, giveaways and other unique fan experiences. Fans can also enjoy various interactive tents and purchase their favorite Redskins merchandise at the Redskins Team Store tent. Located next to the Science Museum of Virginia and the Children’s Museum of Richmond, fans can also take advantage of special exhibits that will be featured during camp.  Free.

From Foundry to Fire.  2pm.  American Civil War Center.  Come learn about the importance of the cannon manufacturing capabilities of Tredegar Ironworks, as well as, the role field artillery played in the Civil War. A costumed artillery crew will explain the process of making and testing the cannon and then demonstrate its use on the battlefield!  Fee.

Pontoon Boat Tours of the James River.   1pm, 2pm & 3pm. Visitors to Henricus Historical Park are encouraged to participate in history and conservation tours on the Discovery Barge II, a covered 24- foot pontoon boat captained by Mike Ostrander of Discover the James, an established provider of educational eco-tours and fishing trips. For ages 6 and older.   Tours are scheduled on the hour.  Fee.

Sunday, August 4th

The Diggity Dudes.  11am & 1pm performances.  CMoR Chesterfield.  Dance and sing along with the Diggity Dudes! Free with museum admission.

Reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention.  The Patrick Henry Committee invites you to bring your friends and family to a reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. In the presence of Washington, Jefferson, and other notable Virginians, Patrick Henry delivered his passionate call for liberty, uttering the immortal words, “Give me liberty or give me death!” These events are free and open to the public. Doors open at 1pm for seating on a first-come, first-served basis, Music program begins at 1:30pm, and the reenactment begins at 2pm.  Please call 804-648-5015 for more information.  Free to the public, with a suggested $5 per person donation.
