All Week

Robots + Us.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Explore differences between humans and robots by examining how lifelike machines imitate moving, sensing, thinking and being. Investigate robotics, computer science and biomedical engineering through enjoyable interactive exhibits and videos. Included with exhibit admission. Free for members.

Butterflies LIVE!  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Visitors have the opportunity to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures – watch them fly, feed and flutter all around you.  Free with Garden Admission.

Water Play Opens at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  During warm spring, summer, and fall days, the Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Swimming diapers are required for those not potty-trained.  Water Play is operational when the air temperature is 70 degrees or higher. Saturdays and Sundays, April 20th through Oct. 6th (weather permitting), 9 – 4:45 p.m. Weekday schedule, April 22nd through June 14th (weather permitting), 1 – 4:45 p.m. Weekday schedule, June 17th-Sept. 13th (weather permitting), 9-4:45 p.m. Weekday schedule, Sept. 16th- Sept. 29th (weather permitting), 1-4:45 p.m. Families after Five, June 6 through August 29th (weather permitting), 5 – 8:30 p.m.

Art around the World.  10am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of Arts – Preschool Programs.  Fee.

Garden Art Studio. 1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Get in the creative zone! Work alongside the staff in the colorful Garden Art Studio located beside the Hidden Tunnel. Drop-in and unfold your creative energy. Use provided materials to collaborate, explore and reflect on your own Garden experience.  Free with Garden admission.

Short Pump Pals Clubhouse Meeting.  11am.  Short Pump Mall Food Court.  Short Pump Pals Clubhouse Meeting Ventriloquist Fun! You’re in for a special treat with Jeff Smith and his puppet friends! Slim Chance is a delightful cowboy who is sure to charm you, and Louie Wolf is the brother of the “big bad wolf” who wants to set the record straight about what happened to his brother. His slant on familiar fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs will have you howling with laughter!  Free.

Garden Explorations for Families- Weather. 3:30pm. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Children (all ages) with accompanying adult. Enjoy story time and a fun-filled adventure while exploring different areas of the Garden. Observe your surroundings using a variety of hands-on activities and take-home treasures. Themes change each month and new stories, activities and garden areas are introduced each week. Garden Explorations for Families is an excellent opportunity for homeschoolers! Fee.

Wednesday, June 12th

Mommy & Me and Daddies Too.  10-11:30am.  The Shops at Willow Lawn,  Outdoor Plaza.  A FREE morning out with live entertainment and activities designed to enhance parent’s interaction with their children.  This month – The Diggity Dudes.  Free.

Drop-in and Dig  1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical   Garden.  Families with children are invited to drop-in and participate in simple, easy to learn gardening tasks under the guidance of Children’s Garden staff and volunteers. These family-oriented gardening experiences can easily be enjoyed at home. So join us to learn how much fun gardening with children can be!   Free with Garden Admission.

Thursday June 13th

Friday, June 14th

Good Green Fun.  11am.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  Families with children of all ages are invited to spend some time in the Children’s Garden listening to story books, gardening, participating in walkabouts and having good green fun.  Free with garden admission.

Kids Night Out…Parents Night Off.  6pm-9pm.  Simply FIT.  It’s a night of fun and games for the kids and a night on the town for you! Join us for pizza, movies, and action-packed, age-appropriate games and activities centered around a specific theme! Your kids will have a BLAST with our expert staff while you get a night out – all at a fraction of what you would pay a babysitter! For ages 18 months to 12 years old! HCA Family Palooza.  10am-2pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Join HCA for Family Palooza – it’s packed with fun and health activities for the kid in all of us! The event is free.

Fairy Chase.  10:30am.  Maymont Grounds.  Fee.

Bumblebee Jamboree.  11am-3pm.  Maymont Children’s Farm Lawn.  Families can enjoy live butterflies, crafts for the kids and more!  Free.

KIDS RICHMOND SHOW for INTERNATIONAL JUGGLING DAY.  Kids Show- 2pm and Juggling Workshop 3pm.  Gallery 5 in Historic Jackson Ward, 200 W. Marshall St., Richmond, Virginia 23220.  World-touring, award-winning performer, and Richmond’s own hometown boy, Paolo Garbanzo, is bringing you a show and an all levels workshop. Also expect additional entertainments for kids: Face Painters and more.  This show is followed by a juggling workshop at 3pm, open to everyone.  More details at www.garbanzojuggling.com.  Fee.

From Foundry to Fire.  2pm.  American Civil War Center.  Come learn about the importance of the cannon manufacturing capabilities of Tredegar Ironworks, as well as, the role field artillery played in the Civil War. A costumed artillery crew will explain the process of making and testing the cannon and then demonstrate its use on the battlefield!  Fee.

Sunday, June 16th

Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Reenactment Series.  Historic St. John’s Church.   The Patrick Henry Committee invites you to bring your friends and family to a reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. In the presence of Washington, Jefferson, and other notable Virginians, Patrick Henry delivered his passionate call for liberty, uttering the immortal words, “Give me liberty or give me death!”   1:00 p.m. Doors open, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  1:30 p.m. Music program.  2:00 p.m. Reenactment begins. Please call 804-648-5015 for more information.  This event is free and open to the public, but a $5 donation is suggested.

Father’s Day in the Garden. 1pm-4pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  Celebrate the man in your life with family fun, model boats, live music, and a tasty cookout (for purchase). Enjoy a free concert (included in Garden admission) by the Jangling Reinharts down at the Bloemendaal House where food will be available for purchase. The Richmond Model Yacht Club will also be on-site showing off different model boats on our lake.  Free with garden admission.

Flying Squirrels Baseball Game.  2:05pm.  The Diamond.  Sign your children up for the Kids Club and receive free admission to certain Sunday games.  Fee.

Father’s Day Ice Cream Social.  4pm-6pm.  Walkerton Tavern.  Treat Dad to delicious Bruster’s ice cream while the whole family listens to the light music and popular tunes of the Hanover Concert Band. Spend the afternoon touring historic Walkerton Tavern, making homemade ice cream, and playing your favorite backyard games.  Free.
