Water Play Opens at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  During warm spring, summer, and fall days, the Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Swimming diapers are required for those not potty-trained.  Water Play is operational when the air temperature is 70 degrees or higher.

Drop-in and unfold your creative energy. Use provided materials to collaborate, explore and reflect on your own Garden experience.  Free with Garden admission.

Garden Explorations for Families- Soils. 3:30pm. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Children (all ages) with accompanying adult. Enjoy story time and a fun-filled adventure while exploring different areas of the Garden. Observe your surroundings using a variety of hands-on activities and take-home treasures. Themes change each month and new stories, activities and garden areas are introduced each week. Garden Explorations for Families is an excellent opportunity for homeschoolers! Fee.

Henrico Pops Chorus Spring Concert.  7:30pm.  The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.  For all ages. A concert for the entire family! Under the direction of Bobbie Moore, the chorus will take you on a trip along Broadway for your favorite songs of the Great White Way.  Reservations suggested.  Free.

Wednesday, May 22nd

Drop-in and Dig!  1pm-3pm.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  Families with children are invited to drop-in and participate in simple, easy to learn gardening tasks under the guidance of Children’s Garden staff and volunteers. These family-oriented gardening experiences can easily be enjoyed at home. So join us to learn how much fun gardening with children can be!   Free with Garden Admission.

Children’s Museum of Richmond special event. 5pm-7:30pm. Enjoy exclusive, members-only evening hours at all three locations with light fare provided by Tropical Smoothie.

Richmond’s Homefront: Dinner With Jefferson Davis.  6pm-8pm.  Walkerton Tavern.  For ages 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Come eat a historically authentic dinner set in 1863 Richmond while listening to period music. Special guest of the night will feature Jefferson Davis portrayed by notable Davis interpreter Bill McGourty who will share with you the current state of wartime Richmond. Saturday, May 25th

Richmond’s Homefront: Confederate Cemeteries of Richmond.  10am-3pm.  Departs from Dabbs House Museum.  For ages 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Nearly 2% of the United   States population, over 600,000 soldiers died during the Civil War. In addition, an unknown number of civilians died due to war-related causes. Come learn what happened to the southern dead as we visit many of the final resting places for these Confederate soldiers and civilians. The tour will visit Oakwood Cemetery, Shockoe Hill Cemetery, and Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Register at www.henricohistoricalsociety.org and look under the “shopping” tab. Fee.

From Foundry to Fire.  2pm.  American Civil War Center.  Come learn about the importance of the cannon manufacturing capabilities of Tredegar Ironworks, as well as, the role field artillery played in the Civil War. A costumed artillery crew will explain the process of making and testing the cannon and then demonstrate its use on the battlefield!  Fee.

Richmond Raiders Indoor Football Game.  7pm.  Richmond Coliseum.   Fee.
