Richmond Symphony Presents PIXAR in Concert!

Pixar_CSFrom the Toy Story trilogy to The Incredibles and UP, Pixar has forever impacted filmmaking and given audiences of all ages some of the most beloved characters in cinematic history. Now, the Richmond Symphony presents Pixar in Concert, with visually stunning clips and memorable scores from each of Pixar’s movies, including their latest release, Brave, performed live.

The Richmond Symphony will hold performances May 18th at 7pm and May 19th at 2pm at Carpentre Theatre.

All 13 Pixar scores have been written by four composers: Randy Newman, Michael Giacchino, Thomas Newman, and Patrick Doyle. Collectively, this music has won three Academy Awards®, received ten additional Oscar® nominations, and won ten Grammys.

“Music, to me, is one of the most important things to give a movie emotion,” John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, told Variety during a Hollywood recording session. “Lighting, color, and music are all things I use as a storyteller. I’m in absolute awe of the talent of these musicians… the fact that they have never seen this music before and yet play it perfectly, with feeling and interpretation.”

This new production, Pixar In Concert, has been performed by the San Francisco Symphony (July 2012), the Los Angeles Philharmonic (August 2012), and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (November 2012).

Richmond Symphony’s Pixar in Concert celebrates both the musical and storytelling artistry of the Pixar films. Rousing themes and gorgeous melodies are woven in harmony with iconic visuals from the films. The concert also provides an opportunity for many families and children to experience a live symphony for the first time – the movie music itself provides an almost universal entry point.
