April E-Cycling.  9:30am to 5:00pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  April is E-Cycle month at the Museum, benefitting VirginiaFIRST. Drop off your unwanted electronic devices including computers, mp3s, smart phones, cell phones, televisions and other electronics for recycling. They accept broken and working equipment, batteries, cables and chargers, etc. Anything with data will be wiped to DOD standards. Free.

E-recycle: Dispose of unwanted and used electronic devices. Meet Goodwill Industries and drop off your old computers, ipods, printers, and other unused electronics and allow Goodwill Industries to dispose of them in an earth friendly fashion. VCU School of Engineering Senior Design Expo.  9:30am to 2:30pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  If you are looking for something amazing, explore senior engineering projects designed by Virginia Commonwealth University students. One year a student designed a flying car, so this year’s designs should even be more spectacular. Free.

Collegiate Friday Frolic. Come enjoy time to yourself at Collegiate’s Friday Frolic, 10am – 4pm. Shop for used books, toys & clothes at our Cougar Market and then stroll over to our beautiful Garden Shoppe where you will find all of your spring planting needs. You can also shop the 40 different vendors who will be selling beautifully handcrafted items and specialty gifts. The event is organized by the Collegiate Parents Association, with all proceeds benefitting Collegiate School. Free admission.

Lake Clean-Up: Take an afternoon break or start the weekend early outside and help clean up the perimeters of the three lakes that contribute to the pristine beauty of Innsbrook. All volunteers will meet in front of 4600 Cox Road and then disperse in teams to cleanse the lakes. Time: 2:00pm-4:00pm. Earth Day Festival at 17th Street. A 20-year Spring tradition continues at 17th Street Farmers Market as we celebrate Earth Day 2013. The Earth Day Festival is scheduled for April 20 from 11am – 5pm.

SAT Practice Test with Princeton Review.  9am.   Twin Hickory Area Library.  Staff from Princeton Review will conduct a 4 hour SAT practice test. For rising high school juniors and seniors. A follow-up test results session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 7pm.  Registration required.  Free.

Clean & Simple – Basic Card Making.  10:30am.  Regency Square Garden Room, off the Food Court.  Explore basic stamping techniques and use a variety of embellishments to make a well designed card that is clean and simple. Students will learn how to use white space to their advantage and use dye ink pads, card stock and glitter to create beautiful cards friends will love.

The Virginia Firefighter Games.  11am-4pm.  Short Pump Mall.  Come out for a fun family day with music, food, games and kid’s activities! Regional firefighters will compete in an intense, adrenaline-fueled obstacle course, racing against time for the title of “best in class.” All proceeds benefit local charities that help our youth.

Sheep to Shawl Celebrates 300 Years of Meadow Farm.  Noon-4pm.  Meadow Farm Museum.  For all ages. Celebrate with us as you meet a living historian portraying William Sheppard, listen to music, and watch the sheep being sheared. Try your hand at carding, spinning and weaving, or make a wool craft.  Free.

Earth Day Celebration.  1pm-4pm.  Three LakesPark.  For all ages. Celebrate Earth Day by learning ways to protect the environment. Wee environmentalists can enjoy a puppet show, “Magic Pots and Recycled Bottles” presented by puppeteer Kathleen Jacobs, make a craft from reused materials, and play games that promote litter pick-up and reducing waste. Explore Three Lakes Nature Center and see special Earth Day displays featuring dinosaurs, birds, sharks, and more. This year, the center is welcoming a new addition, ‘Baby T-Rex’, a life-sized sculpture created using-newly discovered findings in paleontology. Concessions will be available for purchase. Free.

Powhatan Earth Day Celebration is Saturday, April 20th11am-2pm. There will be children’s activities, live music and food, free tree seedlings, educational exhibits, earth conscious vendors, garden tours, ‘green’ car exhibit, composting demos, plant sales and much more. It takes place on the Powhatan Courthouse Green in the Village. Free.

Sensory Friendly Movie. 2pm.  Henrico Theatre.  For the autism community. Are you ready for an afternoon at the movies with no worries, that you can just enjoy? Individuals on the Spectrum and their friends and family are able to spend the afternoon celebrating Autism Awareness Month at the historical Henrico Theatre! The movie auditorium will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, to create the most inviting accessible environment for our Autism community! From Foundry to Fire!  2pm.  The American Civil WarCenter at Historic Tredegar.  Learn about the importance of the cannon manufacturing capabilities of Tredegar Ironworks, as well as, the role field artillery played in the Civil War. A costumed artillery crew will explain the process of making and testing the cannon and then demonstrate its use on the battlefield.  Fee.

National Weather Service SKYWARN Training Session.  3pm to 5pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Learn now to become a volunteer severe weather spotter! The Fifth Annual RVA French Food FestivalPulling out all the stops to make this year’s event the biggest and best yet. Water Play Opens at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  During warm spring, summer, and fall days, the Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Swimming diapers are required for those not potty-trained.  Water Play is operational when the air temperature is 70 degrees or higher.
