Tweens Collecting Books for Christmas Mother

The Henrico Christmas Mother, an organization which helps thousands of families each year, collects items for parents to give as gifts to their children.

Each year in November and early December, the Henrico Library Teen Advisory Boards have a book drive to collect new and like-new books to give to the Christmas Mother. They’re looking for everything from board books and picture books for little kids all the way up to the types of books teens enjoy reading.

Clean out your shelves or purchase a new book – then look for a big box in your local library to drop them off for Christmas Mother. The TAB will ensure they are delivered in time for Christmas.

Help TAB as they collect books for needy kids – spread the word!

What is TAB?

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) in Henrico is a way for teens to have a voice at the library, participate in fun programs with other teens, and help others.

TAB groups usually meet once a month and are open to students in grades 7th to 12th.  If you are in 7th grade you must already be 12 years old.  Schedules do vary from library to library.  There is a limit of 25 teens that can participate in a group, and you can only be active with one TAB group.  So please contact your Teen Librarian at your local library to see if there is space available.

Current TAB activities include:

  • Helping choose books and magazines for our teen collections
  • Assisting at library programs–such as reading to children, helping at special events, and teaching new technologies to other teens
  • Giving advice about which programs and services you would like to see offered at the library for teens
