ENGINEERING FOR KIDS CENTRAL VA

EFK of Central VA offers afternoon and evening classes to children ages 4-14. Each class meets one day a week for 6 weeks.  They offer classes ranging from robotics and electronic game design to chemical, aerospace, electrical, and mechanical engineering.   They also offer camps and birthday parties.

This is a hands-on class where students build machines, buildings, vehicles and other structures out of MOTORIZED LEGO® Bricks, using one-of-a-kind model plans designed by Bricks 4 Kidz. The class introduces S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math) concepts related to the day’s model and helps students develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. The Center for Creative Arts is on the campus of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in the West End. Using Lego NXT robotics kits and laptop computers, The Center offers robotics camps and classes that introduce students to robot design, basic programming, engineering practices and competition strategies. The Center also sponsors two teams that compete regionally in the fall.

Next Star Performing Arts Center is a place where children ages 5 to 13 can develop a love for Performing Arts while learning valuable life skills.  They currently offer the following classes/programs: Acting, Creative Writing, Public Speaking, Film Summer Camp, Leadership Seminars for boys and girls and birthday parties.  The mission of Next Star is to develop leadership skills, encourage creativity and promote self-confidence through the use of Performing Arts.  The Next Star Team is made up of professionals in the field of Performing Arts, Journalism and a Certified Life Coach.
