Nature calls! Maymont’s wildly popular summer camps offer outdoor adventures, animal encounters, games, crafts and hands-on activities for nature explorers, ages 3-rising 8th graders. There’s no better place to spend the summer than amongst Maymont’s giant trees, rolling hills, winding waterways and wide open spaces. Camps for Ages 3-4

Cub Camp: You and your cub will learn about wildlife through games, hikes, crafts, stories and visits with Maymont’s friendly animals.

Camps for Ages 4-5

Tails and Tales: Listen to stories and music from around the world while discovering the joys of Maymont through crafts and hikes.

Living Alphabet: From alligators to zebra swallowtail butterflies, learn about the plants and animals around us one letter at a time.

Camps for Rising 1st Graders

Jaws, Claws and Paws: Explore awesome adaptations that animals use in the wild by meeting critters with excellent eyesight, creative camouflage, and more.

Busy Builders: Investigate and create shelters for tiny insects to large mammals.

What’s on the Menu: Get tangled up in nature’s food web, from grazing goats to hunting hawks, to discover who got lunch and who got munched!

Camps for Rising 2nd-3rd Graders

Maymont Explorers: Explore the Mansion, gardens, Robins Nature Center and grounds through geocaching and scavenger hunts as we decode secret messages, solve mysteries, and discover hidden treasures.

Fight or Flight: Take a journey of survival, acting like an animal in the wild as you “choose your own adventure.”

Mesozoic Maymont: Learn about creatures that roamed Virginia before, during, and after the dinosaurs. 

Camps for Rising 4th-5th Graders

Junior Animal Keeper Camp: Join pro aquarists and animal keepers during daily tasks like feeding and making enrichment treats.

Feeding Frenzy: See how animals demonstrate wild behaviors to find their meals and avoid becoming dinner! Explore tricks animals use to hunt, forage, and hide.

Camps for Rising 6th-8th Graders

Field Investigators: Learn to evaluate habitats, monitor wildlife, and study animal behavior using STEM skills.

Senior Animal Keeper Camp: Join aquarists and animal keepers during their daily tasks. Make treats, train animals, feed fish, and meet animal care specialists.

Camp Volunteers

Junior naturalists, ages 15-18, assist in teaching younger campers about our natural environment while gaining experience in the environmental science field.

Camp Scholarships

Looking for a way to support environmental learning for youth in our community? Help children in need attend Maymont’s Summer Discovery Camps with a contribution to the Camp Scholarship Fund.
