Center for Creative Arts Summer Camps!

The Center for Creative Arts offers some of the most popular camps in the Richmond area.  Located in Richmond’s far West End on the campus of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, children and teens can choose from Dance Camp, Art Camps, Robotics Camps, Chess Camps, and Musical Theater Camps.  Students are taught in a safe and nurturing environment where small classes ensure individual attention from professional artists and musicians.  $10 Early Bird discount if you register by May 1! Preschool Half Day Camps

Sleeping Beauty Preschool Ballet Camp

​Is there a princess sleeping in your castle?  Join our Sleeping Beauty Fairy Princess Camp for a week of ballet and make-believe as we explore the classic fairy tale.  Children ages 4 and up will learn some fundamentals of ballet technique, make fairy crafts, collect pixie dust, have tea parties, and prepare a demonstration for their parents to see on the last day.

Preschool Camp – Mary Poppins and Bert!

Preschoolers sing, dance and step-in-time with Mary Poppins and Bert!  Chalk drawing, birdhouses, “chimney-sweep day” and kites are some of our art adventures in a delightful week of camp – developing both large and small motor skills in nurturing classes.  Fun-filled mornings include outdoor playground time.  Peanut-free snack provided.

Elementary Art Camps

Children rotate between art activities, snack, and game time or outdoor play at these popular summer camps taught by professional artists.  Each week ends with an art exhibit on Fridays for friends and family.  Pack a peanut-free lunch! Snacks and supplies provided for all camps.

Cartoon Mania! June 29 – July 3

Draw Andy, Bo Peep, Buzz and friends from Toy Story 4.  Make your own toy inspired by Forkie!  Write your own cartoon inspired by The Secret Life of Pets, paint Snowball, and choose your favorite cartoon images from games like Bloons, or your favorite Marvel Movies!

Castles! July 6-10

Make a splashed paint watercolor of the Disney Castle, use pen and ink to draw Hogwarts from Harry Potter, paint the inside of Elsa’s Ice Castle, build a 3-d Castle from tubes, and learn how to draw Knights, Princesses, and Dragons!

Under the Sea! July 13-17

Draw a Zendoodle seahorse, paint a pop-art octopus and a day-glow starfish. Paint a sailboat in acrylics on canvas, sculpt a baby sea turtle, and more as you explore the amazing shapes and colors of the sea!

Art Explorations! July 20-24

Do you enjoy exploring?  Learn acrylic pour painting on canvas and how it mimics nature.  Paint with string pulls to make beautiful abstracts on paper that we will use for other projects.  Learn drawing and color as we discover how to paint with paper; and have fun with book making using some of our creations!

Nature Art!  July 27-31

Whimsical Nature Camp – Fresh air and creativity!!  Discover the fun and relaxation of nature journaling and make your own journaling kit box to carry all your supplies.  We will learn easy sketching outdoors; discover whimsical watercolor techniques; and more!

Jewelry!  August 10-14

Explore your flare for jewelry design! Create colorful handmade clay beads, design a Navajo necklace, discover the art of Victorian paper beads, weave friendship bracelets with patterns from Central America, and bedazzle a jewelry box inspired by Ancient Egypt!

Space Art! August 24-28

3…2…1…Blast Off!  Construct and design 3-D paper rockets for launch day. Create new galaxies using pastels and glitter, model your favorite planets using clay, draw alien illustrations with pen and ink, assemble robots using recycled materials and use glow paint to create zoo animal constellations. Join other artists and explore our Universe!

Teens + Tweens Studio Art Camp

​Teen and Tweens artists develop their own personal interests and images as they explore relief printmaking, figure sculpture, drawing the portrait, and animals in pen and ink, charcoal, and painting on canvas.  The small classes taught by professional artists focus on individual attention and encourage the unique creativity of each student.

Disney’s MARY POPPINS Jr. Musical Theater Camp

​​Mary Poppins JR. is an enchanting mixture of a great story, unforgettable songs and  dance. Join us for this great musical theater camp!  Directed by Sylvia Cooper, every child will be on stage for most of the musical.   A free performance for family and friends is held on the last evening of the camp. Children develop self-confidence on-stage in this action-packed camp!  Snacks, T-shirt, musical CD & book included.  This camp fills up very quickly – register soon.

Chess Camps!

Discover strategies that build a strong chess foundation, one piece at a time in this popular camp! Learn strategies in Pawn Games, conquer the mysteries of check, checkmate and stalemate. Players are paired according to age and ability.

Robotics Legos & Robots

Learn how to build and design Robots using the LEGO EV3 system. Students will learn basic robotic engineering, programming principals, and the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotics Invention system. Teamwork skills will be emphasized as the students work together in small groups to design, build, and program robots to complete missions presented to family and friends on the last day of camp. No previous experience required.
