Junie B. Jones, The Musical

Virginia Repertory Theatre  opens Junie B. Jones, The Musical, Friday, October 7 at the Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn. With book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich, this clever, high energy musical lasts one hour and will entertain children of all ages. Inspired by the beloved books from Barbara Park, Junie sings and dances her way through the adventures of first grade with the help of her top secret personal beeswax journal.

Junie B. Jones, The Musical is directed by Chase Kniffen. Recent directing credits include this summer’s record breaking Dreamgirls, Gypsy, South Pacific, The Triumph of Love for UVA Drama, Caroline or Change for Cadence/Virginia Rep, and Charlotte’s Web at Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre.

Audrey Kate Taylor plays the title role of Junie. Taylor is an 8th grader at Chickahominy Middle School and already a familiar face in Richmond’s professional theatre scene. Her recent credits at Virginia Rep include Goodnight Moon, Santa’s Christmas Miracle, and Madeline’s Christmas.

Also featured in the cast is Grey Garrett, most recently seen in Croaker at Virginia Rep and nominated for an RTCC award for The Boy From Oz at Richmond Triangle Players this summer; Caleb Wade, also featured in Croaker as well as this summer’s hit American Idiot at Firehouse Theatre; Megan Tatum, who serves as the show’s associate choreographer and was seen in Virginia Rep’s Mame; Austin Taylor Smith, who was also featured in Croaker and starred in The Golden Goose this summer at Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre; and Thomas Nowlin, featured in Virginia Rep’s The House at Pooh Corner last fall.

Music direction is by Stephen Rudlin, a longtime vocal coach credited most recently with supervising vocals for The Fabulous Lipitones, South Pacific, and A Christmas Carol for Virginia Rep. Scenic Design is by Terrie Powers (Brighton Beach Memoirs, House at Pooh Corner), lighting design by BJ Wilkinson (Summer and Smoke, Croaker) and costume design is credited to Sarah Grady (Dreamgirls, I Do! I Do!).
