Tuesday, September 15th

15 Cent Kids Days.  Children’s Museum of Richmond.  15¢ Kids Days will offer admission to children for 15¢ on the 15th of each month. Valid at all four locations (Central, Short Pump, Chesterfield, and Fredericksburg), the Museum will feature activities for the entire family – in addition to the play-filled, educational environment that families across Central Virginia have come to associate with CMoR.

Family Fishing. 8am-10am. Reedy Creek Visitors Center, 4301 Riverside Drive, Richmond Virginia 23219. Learn to tie fishing knots, where and how to cast and how to identify what you reel in. This course is focused on introducing new people to fishing and building introductory skills, but we welcome seasoned anglers as well. Rods and reels provided. Geology Hike.  11am-1pm.  Tredegar Parking Area, 300 Tredegar St., Richmond VA 23219.  Enjoy a leisurely hike around Belle Isle as we discuss the geologic history of our state and point out several interesting rock formations along the way. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn the basics of geology in a hands on context and better understand the significance of the fall line in our city. Please bring water, a snack and hiking shoes.  Please register for this event. Family Jump Night.  6pm-8pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  Come play on the giant, soft, fun-filled interactive inflatables during Family Jump Time, then enjoy a pizza dinner together! 123 MAGIC and YOUR PRESCHOOLER.  6:30-9pm.  CPR office conference room, 8500 Bell Creek Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.  Perhaps the greatest task of the parent of a child 2-6 is understanding what a preschooler is; what’s normal; what’s not. And the second most important task is to learn how to get and keep that child’s attention in an appropriate manner. This class will provide the parent with a much greater insight to the emerging skills of a young child; how to set appropriate expectations and how to engage with the child in a manner that encourages calm in your home. 123 Magic is a simple behavior management tool that provides a consistent and firm but loving means of managing preschool power struggles.   Classes 20$ per adult; cash or check.

Inspired by Bikes.  5pm – 7 pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts,  Art Education Center.  Recommended for children ages 5 – 12.  Repurpose salvaged bicycle parts and hardware to create one-of-a-kind sculptures and urban home décor.  Fee.

Science After Dark. 5pm to 9pm. Science Museum of Virginia. Enjoy an evening of science and stars at the Museum! Step into The Dome for a special all-live ‘Cosmic Expeditions’ taking off at 6:30 pm, then stick around for a showing of ‘E.T The Extra-Terrestrial’ at 8 pm. Afterwards, stargaze through telescopes with the Richmond Astronomical Society. $5 or free for members. College students with ID will receive free admission.

Parent’s Night Out.  6:30pm-10:30pm.  Pump It Up, 9555 Kings Charter Drive, Suite I, Ashland , VA.  The kids will be happy with an evening of jumping, games, dinner and a movie! 4-12 years old.  Fee.

Friday, September 18th – Sunday, September 20th

Field Day of the Past.  Located at the intersection of Rout 623 (Ashland Road) and Route 622 in Goochland County.  Historic displays, buildings, demonstrations and re-enactments, Tractor and Truck Pulls, Small Engine Displays, “Living History” exhibits for antique machinery including a sawmill, broom handle making machine and others, and carnival rides.  Visit the website for additional details.  Fee.

Saturday, September 19th

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Glen Allen Day.  9:30am-3pm. Meadow Farm Museum.  The Glen Allen Ruritan Club in association with Henrico Recreation and Parks will host Glen Allen Day; one of Henrico County’s largest outdoor festivals! The festivities kick off with a parade at 9:30am on Mountain Road. Activities in the park include balloon animals by Miss Sheri the Clown, a petting zoo, airbrush designs, arts, crafts, business fair, and local musicians on two stages. Concessions will be available for purchase.  Free.

Science Saturday.  11am.  Tuckahoe Library.  Explore the science of air with some cool demonstrations and hands-on discovery stations. Best for ages 3 and up.  Free.

Stories at the Museum.  11am.  Virginia Historical Society.  Special educator-led readings of children’s history books.  Free and open to all ages.

University of Richmond Football vs. VMI.  6pm.  Robins Stadium at the University of Richmond.   Opening game as the University of Richmond Spiders take on VMI at Robins Stadium! Take part in the pregame festivities, including our Sweet Frog Family Fun Zone and performances by the Cosby High School Band. Gates open at 4:30PM. Tickets can be purchased online at RichmondSpiders.com.

Saturday, September 19th – Sunday, September 20th

Family Camp-Out: Creatures of the James.   6pm- 9am.  Maymont Grounds. Take an evening hike through the estate in search of native nocturnal creatures, and meet a few of Maymont’s own animal ambassadors. Afterwards, we’ll make s’mores and enjoy stories around the campfire. Following a night in your tent on Maymont’s grounds, enjoy a continental breakfast and take a morning hike. Ages 4 and older; one adult must be registered for every four children. Register by September 16.  Fee.

Sunday, September 20th

Introduction to Ultimate.  2pm-4pm.  Deep Run Park.  Ultimate is a limited-contact field sport that is played with a flying disc. The sport is growing in popularity with all age groups, but especially among teens and young adults! You’ll be introduced to basic rules, techniques, and strategies for playing Ultimate. Discs will be provided. For kids ages Ages 8+.  Registration is required.  Free.
