The Children’s Museum in Short Pump is Now Open!

Completely Kids had a unique opportunity to check out the new Short Pump Children’s Museum – and it is awesome!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words – so we took a bunch so you could get an idea what there is to see and do while you are there!

The Ant Farm

ant farm

The Ant Farm Climbing Wall was developed by the Math Science Innovation Center (MSiC) specifically for CMoR’s new location. Children will have the opportunity to become ants, crawling up through layers of earth inside a larger-than-life ant hill where they can slide back down and start all over again!  MSiC is planning to fill the tunnels with facts about ants, dirt, and the outdoors.

EyePlay

iplay

EyePlay is a virtual play floor projection hosts a variety of games that each offer specific learning experiences. Kids can practice social skills, color and pattern recognition, and gross motor agility by dancing, rolling, stomping, and running their way through challenges. It is unlike anything in RVA we have seen!

soymourSoyMor

SoyMor allows kids the opportunity to conceptualize the farm-to-table process. With interactive murals and manipulatives, a picking patch, silos and a real tractor, SoyMor offers a snapshot look at the life of a soybean farmer.

LightPeg Wall

Do you remember playing with your Light Brite? This exhibit allows the next generation to experience those same thrills on a much grander scale.  There are a whole bunch of educational components to this exhibit – but we just enjoyed the plain old fun of it!

A classic, found at all of the CMoR locations – a place for kids to just create.  Kids can use a wide variety of recycled materials, child-sized tools, and innovative art techniques.  This is a Completely Kids favorite!

And there is so much more!

Add to all we saw – a grocery store, Silver Diner, Carmax Service Station.  And a few other great exhibits for kids to enjoy!

One of our favorite things about the new Short Pump location is that the site lines are much better.  You feel like you can see most of the museum from the center of the space and that is a relief for parents with multiple little ones!
