Wicked Plants. Science Museum of Virginia.  Wicked Plants unearths 75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants inside of a dilapidated, Victorian home. Guests traverse through each room to uncover the biochemical, physical and neurological processes between botanicals and the human body.  Free with museum admission.  Through Sunday, May 17th.

Thursdays

Fresh Start For Single Mothers “Necessary Ingredients”.  Thursday Nights  6pm-7:30pm.  Weekly meetings will be held at Velocity Church, 3300 Church Road, Richmond Virginia 23233.  A fun wonderfully uplifting program for single mothers.  This program is designed to help single mothers through support, new friendships, encouragement, enlightenment & motivation.  It is used to encourage single mothers in a positive direction while taking a closer look at their present lives and future with round table reflective discussion, guest speakers and interaction with other single moms.  Dinner and Childcare is FREE.  Special program for children & teens.  Weekly Prizes, Giveaways & FUN!   Registration Required – they need to know who is to attend and children’s ages, names, grade and gender of the children you would be bringing 804-364-0460.  Through May 7th

Break It Down.  5pm-6:30pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Composition, color, and form in the style of Cubism.  Fee.

Silk Painting.  5pm-7pm.   Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Recommended for children ages 5 – 12.  Explore traditional and modern approaches to the art of silk painting. Each family will design one silk scarf to take home.  Fee.

Mad Science Parents Night Out. 6pm to 10pm. Want to get out without bringing the kids too? Enjoy a nice night out while Mad Science entertains your kids. But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t’ want to go back! The night will include pizza, a fun science activity, take home activities (slime and more), games, and a fun movie! The cost is $30 per child ($25 for additional siblings). Grades K – 5. Check the website for the list of scheduled topics and to register.

Treasure Island at The Children’s Theatre of Virginia.  Hoist the sails you landlubbers and swab the deck! It’s time to venture out into the tropical seas. Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island takes viewers on an unforgettable pirate voyage as they follow their favorite swashbucklers through treachery and turmoil. Parents, grandparents, and children of all ages are sure to get swept up in the hunt for gold and this young boy’s quest for adventure. Suggested for ages 6 and up. Length: 1 hour.

Come and read to one of our resident therapy reading dogs! this reading program allows children to have a reading session with a therapy dog and their trainer. Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection. Every Saturday at Ginter Park Library. Tredegar Battalion. 11:30am. The American Civil War Center, 500 Tredegar Street, Richmond, VA 23219. They are looking to recruit youngsters every Saturday at 11:30am to join the Tredegar Battalion. Discover how a Civil War soldier trained and fought with the rifle musket by drilling with a costumed interpreter. Program includes a blank, black powder firing.

15 Cent Kids Days.  Children’s Museum of Richmond.  15¢ Kids Days will offer admission to children for 15¢ on the 15th of each month. Valid at all four locations (Central, Short Pump, Chesterfield, and Fredericksburg), the Museum will feature activities for the entire family – in addition to the play-filled, educational environment that families across Central Virginia have come to associate with CMoR.

Teeny Tiny Farm Visit.  10am-Noon.  Children’s Museum – Fredericksburg location.  Teeny Tiny Farm and their petting zoo will be visiting.  Free with museum admission.
