Wicked Plants. Science Museum of Virginia.  Wicked Plants unearths 75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants inside of a dilapidated, Victorian home. Guests traverse through each room to uncover the biochemical, physical and neurological processes between botanicals and the human body.  Free with museum admission.  Through Sunday, May 17th.

Thursdays

Fresh Start For Single Mothers “Necessary Ingredients”.  Thursday Nights  6pm-7:30pm.  Weekly meetings will be held at Velocity Church, 3300 Church Road, Richmond Virginia 23233.  A fun wonderfully uplifting program for single mothers.  This program is designed to help single mothers through support, new friendships, encouragement, enlightenment & motivation.  It is used to encourage single mothers in a positive direction while taking a closer look at their present lives and future with round table reflective discussion, guest speakers and interaction with other single moms.  Dinner and Childcare is FREE.  Special program for children & teens.  Weekly Prizes, Giveaways & FUN!   Registration Required – they need to know who is to attend and children’s ages, names, grade and gender of the children you would be bringing 804-364-0460.  Through May 7th.

Today – Sunday, April 19th

Treasure Island at The Children’s Theatre of Virginia.  Hoist the sails you landlubbers and swab the deck! It’s time to venture out into the tropical seas. Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island takes viewers on an unforgettable pirate voyage as they follow their favorite swashbucklers through treachery and turmoil. Parents, grandparents, and children of all ages are sure to get swept up in the hunt for gold and this young boy’s quest for adventure. Suggested for ages 6 and up. Length: 1 hour.

Tuesday, March 24th

“Toddler Time”.  10:30-11am.  Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA, 23227.   Interactive early literacy storytime with music and movement for ages 18-36 months with an adult. Indoor playtime and crafts at the conclusion. For questions and info call Miss Tori at 804.646.1236.  Free.

Young @ Art: Shape it Up!  11am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 2 ½ – 5.  Explore shapes—from searching for circles, squares, and triangles in the galleries, to art movements like Cubism, to “shapely” art projects in the studio!  Fee.

Wednesday, March 25th

Nano Days.  10am-3pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Shrink down to size with interactive exhibits simulated at a billionth of a meter scale! Guests will have the chance to get hands-on with Nano science projects from the University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University while learning how tiny science can be so hugely fun!  Free with museum admission.

Delightful Designs.  4:15pm-6pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center. For ages 5 – 8.  A class with a focus on the geometric lines and motifs in artifacts from the African art collection. Draw similar designs and patterns for creating relief prints in the studio.  Fee.

Game Show Night.  6:30pm-8:30pm.  Montpelier Park, 17203 Sycamore Tavern Lane Montpelier, VA, 23192.  Capture the fun as seen on TV as we put on our own version of such shows as Family Feud, The Price is Right and more.  For this therapeutic recreation program, in home support personnel are encouraged to attend the program with participant at no cost.  Light refreshments will be provided.  For ages 14 and up. Registration required.

Saturday, March 28th

Monument Avenue 10k. 8:30am-1:30pm. W Broad Street and N Harrison Street. 8am – Virginia 529 Kids Run begins. Fee.

RAMOM Everything For Kids Sale. 8am-11am. Chickahominy Middle School in Mechanicsville. A sale by moms of multiples. CASH and Credit (MC and Visa) accepted.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

P.A.W.S. to Read. 10am-Noon. Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA. Do you love dogs? Come and read to one of our resident therapy reading dogs! this reading program allows children to have a reading session with a therapy dog and their trainer. Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection. Every Saturday at Ginter Park Library. Please call 804.646.1236 to schedule your 15-30 minute session. Free.

Pajama Time Musical Playdate.   10:00-10:40am.  Melody Magic Music Studio, 3041 Lauderdale Drive.  Put on those PJs and join us for a fun music class for ages 0-7 years! We will play instruments, do a pajama dance (and parade!), read the story “Pajama Time” by Sandra Boynton, and so much more! $10/child. Advance registration required online at www.melodymagicmusic.com.  Fee.

Storybook Princess Visit.   Meet & Greets at 10am and 2pm.  Children’s Museum – Chesterfield location.  Come and meet your favorite story book princesses as part of National Reading Awareness Month.  Free with museum admission.

Lite 98 Baby Expo. 10am-3pm. Chesterfield Towne Center. Are you a parent to be? Want to know the latest trends and get ideas for baby & family? Then you can’t miss the Lite 98 Baby and Family Expo.  Free Parking – Free Admission.

“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” Anniversary Reenactment. 1:15 pm – 2:30 pm. St. John’s Church.This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5.00.
