Wicked Plants. Science Museum of Virginia.  Wicked Plants unearths 75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants inside of a dilapidated, Victorian home. Guests traverse through each room to uncover the biochemical, physical and neurological processes between botanicals and the human body.  Free with museum admission.  Through Sunday, May 17th.

Eye Bombing @ Your Library.  All Henrico County Libraries.  Entries for the annual Teen Tech Week digital art contest will be accepted Monday, February 2 thru Monday, March 2.  Create a work that displays an imaginative use of googly eyes. One free set of googly eyes is available for contest participants. Visit  for details.

Fresh Start For Single Mothers “Necessary Ingredients”.  Thursday Nights  6pm-7:30pm.  Weekly meetings will be held at Velocity Church, 3300 Church Road, Richmond Virginia 23233.  A fun wonderfully uplifting program for single mothers.  This program is designed to help single mothers through support, new friendships, encouragement, enlightenment & motivation.  It is used to encourage single mothers in a positive direction while taking a closer look at their present lives and future with round table reflective discussion, guest speakers and interaction with other single moms.  Dinner and Childcare is FREE.  Special program for children & teens.  Weekly Prizes, Giveaways & FUN!   Registration Required – they need to know who is to attend and children’s ages, names, grade and gender of the children you would be bringing 804-364-0460.  Thru May 7th.

Monday, February 23rd 

The Grief Summit RVA.   University of Richmond Jepson Alumni Center.  This event brings together professionals in the mental health, counseling, bereavement, and medical fields from across Central Virginia. Exceptional speakers representing diverse areas of expertise and interests will address compelling topics.  Professional Workshop 9:00am-5:30pm ($45 fee) & Community Forum 6:00pm-8:00pm (Free).

Tuesday, February 24th

Young @ Art: Marks Like the Masters.  11am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 2 ½ – 5.  From dots to splatters to thick brushstrokes, be inspired by the painting techniques of master artists to create a colorful work of your own.  Fee.

Weekly Story Time.  Every Tuesday at 11am. Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Towne Center. Escape the winter weather with Story Time every week in February. Readings of classic tales from a wide range of books, hosting story–related activities and more.  Free.

Inclusive Play Date.  11am.  North Park Library.  Inclusive play time for infants and toddlers. Henrico County Early Intervention program staff will be on hand to provide guidance. Bring your child and enjoy the fun! Open to all.  No registration.  Free.

Wednesday, February 25th

Cat & Dog Takeover.  10am.  Dumbarton Library.  For ages 3-5.  Celebrate your favorite pets with a story, some fun furry crafts, and a famous cat and dog scavenger hunt!

Animal Explorers.  4:15pm-6pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.    For ages 5 – 8.  Junior animaliers (people who paint animals) will discuss habitat, basic needs, and characteristics while drawing animals in VMFA’s collection. Use actual and implied texture to create animal portraits in the studio.  Fee.

Friday, February 27th & Saturday, February 28th

The Rock & Roll Jubilee!  Friday and Saturday – 7pm; Sunday – 2pm.  The Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen.  Journey back to 1958 and be a part of the studio audience for the live broadcast on fictitious WJKS radio as it channels the spirits of the founding fathers of rock n’ roll into a great evening of music.  With memorable songs from the Titans of Teen Town: Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers and Ricky Nelson. The Jubilee includes 1950s’ period advertisements, skits and lots of laughs and surprises. You won’t want to miss this cavalcade of cool!  Fee.

Friday, February 27th

Arena Racing.  7pm.  Richmond Coliseum.   Drivers in ½ scale stock cars racing around a $1/2 million high-banked race track turning laps in UNDER 8 seconds flat while competing side-by-side–bumping, rubbing, flipping and racing in the Richmond Coliseum to get their share of over $50,000.00 in cash paid out over the season!  Go to the Coliseum an hour early for a driver meet & greet, included in the price of each ticket!  Fee.

Friday, February 27th to Saturday, February 28th

University of Richmond Dancers Annual Spring Concert.  2pm.  Alice Jepson Theatre.  A great event for the whole family.  Fee.

Virginia Aviation Museum Camp In: Girl Scouts Only.   7pm-9am.  Virginia Aviation Museum.  Camp In features activities designed for Junior Girl Scouts to fulfill requirements for their Detective Badge. Reservations required. For every four children, one adult chaperone is required.  Fee.

Saturday, February 28th

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Friends of the Library Children’s Book Sale.  10am-4pm.  Tuckahoe Library.   Huge variety of books at bargain prices!  Children’s books will be sold SATURDAY ONLY.  Sales benefit Friends of the Tuckahoe Library.

P.A.W.S. to Read.  10am-Noon. Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA. Do you love dogs? Come and read to one of our resident therapy reading dogs! this reading program allows children to have a reading session with a therapy dog and their trainer. Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection. Every Saturday at Ginter Park Library. Generation Dream. 2pm. Henrico Theatre.  For all ages.   Generation Dream presented by the Richmond Peace Education Center is an “Educoncert” honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The concert mixes a variety of performance mediums from spoken word to live music. Open Studio Sundays.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  Go by the studios anytime between Noon and 4 pm to enjoy “make-it, take-it” art activities inspired by objects from the VMFA collection.
