Wicked Plants. Science Museum of Virginia.  Wicked Plants unearths 75 poisonous, carnivorous and diabolical plants inside of a dilapidated, Victorian home. Guests traverse through each room to uncover the biochemical, physical and neurological processes between botanicals and the human body.  Free with museum admission.  Through Sunday, May 17th.

Eye Bombing @ Your Library.  All Henrico County Libraries.  Entries for the annual Teen Tech Week digital art contest will be accepted Monday, February 2 thru Monday, March 2.  Create a work that displays an imaginative use of googly eyes. One free set of googly eyes is available for contest participants. Visit  for details.

Twain’s Tales.  Swift Creek Mill Theatre.  A five story youth series production.  For Grades 3-6.  Visit the website for show times and ticket prices.

Monday, February 16th

Mad Science Holiday Camp. 9am to 4 pm. Kids at home and bored on those three day weekends? Everyone else off work except for you? Drop the kids off for a day of camp at the Mad Science Lab! Mad Science holds full day camps on many school holidays. Holiday camps run from 9 AM to 4 PM for children in grades 1 to 6. Holiday camps let your kids participate in a variety of science projects and activates. We also include a movie and snack. You should pack a lunch for your child. The cost is $50 with before and after care being offered for $10. Check the website for the list of scheduled camps and to register.

Junior Designer Camp. 11am. Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Towne Center. Put a spotlight on your child’s creativity! Kids will participate in hands–on workshops about color, pattern, and textiles inspired by Pottery Barn Kids’ designs. Share your child’s creative moments with #jrdesignercamp for their chance to be featured on our social media channels.  Another event on Feb 21st.  Free.

Tuesday, February 17th

Young @ Art: Marks Like the Masters.  11am-Noon.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 2 ½ – 5.  From dots to splatters to thick brushstrokes, be inspired by the painting techniques of master artists to create a colorful work of your own.  Fee.

Weekly Story Time.  Every Tuesday at 11am. Pottery Barn Kids, Short Pump Towne Center. Escape the winter weather with Story Time every week in February. Readings of classic tales from a wide range of books, hosting story–related activities and more.  Free.

Inclusive Play Date.  11am.  North Park Library.  Inclusive play time for infants and toddlers. Henrico County Early Intervention program staff will be on hand to provide guidance. Bring your child and enjoy the fun! Open to all.  No registration.  Free.

Wednesday, February 18th

Mad Science in Lab Workshop. 10am to 11am. Mad Science Lab in Innsbrook. Science workshops will be held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month for Elementary age students. These workshops are perfect for homeschoolers. Workshops are $10 each, last approximately 60 minutes and include a take home science activity. Thursday, February 19th – Thursday, May 7th 

Fresh Start For Single Mothers “Necessary Ingredients”.  Thursday Nights  6pm-7:30pm.  Weekly meetings will be held at Velocity Church, 3300 Church Road, Richmond Virginia 23233.  A fun wonderfully uplifting program for single mothers.  This program is designed to help single mothers through support, new friendships, encouragement, enlightenment & motivation.  It is used to encourage single mothers in a positive direction while taking a closer look at their present lives and future with round table reflective discussion, guest speakers and interaction with other single moms.  Dinner and Childcare is FREE.  Special program for children & teens.  Weekly Prizes, Giveaways & FUN!   Registration Required – they need to know who is to attend and children’s ages, names, grade and gender of the children you would be bringing 804-364-0460.

Friday, February 20th

Target $1 Family Night.  5pm-7:30pm.  Children’s Museum – Central.    Bring the whole family to enjoy what The Children’s Museum’s Central Location has to offer for just $1 per person.

Science After Dark.  5pm-8pm.  Science Museum of Virginia.  Enter the world of Wicked Plants! Make music with vegetable instruments and “beet” boxes! Step into The Dome at 6:30 pm for a Cosmic Expedition and stay for a special showing of Little Shop of Horrors and a presentation by Grace Chapman, the Director of Horticulture at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens at 8 pm. Venture outside to stargaze with the Richmond Astronomical Society or enjoy three floors of interactive exhibits, generously sponsored by Farm Table.  $5 or free for Museum members and college students with a valid ID.

Generation Z – Let It Snow!   6pm-8pm. Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. For ages 8-12. Drop your kids off for an evening of fun and light snacks. Parents or legal guardian must sign a liability waiver on site at the time of drop off. Jack Frost will be working his magic! Indoor snowball fights, winter-themed crafts, and other snow-themed activities will keep kids busy and feeling cool. Information: bon37@henrico.us.  Free.

Boot Camp for New Dads.  9am-Noon.  Locations vary.  Delivered by First Things First of Greater Richmond.  A unique father-to-father community-based workshop prepares and equips expectant dads to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates, and navigate their transformation into dads.  Fee.

Open House at Robots and Mudpies Preschool.  10am-Noon.  2517 Grenoble Road, Henrico, VA 23294.  Robots and Mud Pies Preschool is the first Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education (STEM) focused preschool in the Richmond area. They offer a half day program for children ages 2 years old through 5 years old with a morning session and an afternoon session.

Black History Month Performance:   Acceptance by the Chesterfield Children’s Theatre.  11am-12pm.  Children’s Museum – Chesterfield.   CCT is bringing their play “Acceptance” to the museum.  Teaching acceptance in all forms—racial, religious, and more—this performance is a don’t miss!  Free with museum admission.

Stories at the Museum. 11am-Noon. Virginia Historical Society. Special educator-led readings of children’s history books and a make-it-and-take-it craft activity related to the text.  Open to all ages. No pre-registration required.  Today – Ellen’s Broom by Kelly Starling Lyons.  Free.

The Adobe Illustrator Crash Course.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.   Experiment with design tools and functions in Adobe Illustrator Pro. With the instructor’s guidance, practice creating vector images for designing logos, cartoons, etc.  Fee.

Games of Art.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Art Education Center.  For ages 6 – 9.  Inspired by Dada and Surrealism, explore the possibilities of art through fun games and activities that combine visual arts with music and tactical experiences.  Fee.

P.A.W.S. to Read. 3pm-4pm. Ginter Park Library, 1200 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA. Do you love dogs? Come and read to one of our resident therapy reading dogs! this reading program allows children to have a reading session with a therapy dog and their trainer. Parents, this is a wonderful program that allows children to read aloud, increase their self-esteem, and learn about the human-animal connection. Every Saturday at Ginter Park Library. “He Ain’t Right” An Evening with Storyteller Anthony Burcher. 7pm. Northside Baptist Church, 7600 Studley Road, Mechanicsville, VA. Award-winning storyteller, Anthony Burcher, will be sharing his tall tales and homespun humor. Admission is $5.

Sunday, February 22nd

Introduction to Fencing.  2pm-4pm.  Eastern Henrico Recreation Center.  For ages 11-16. Fencers will learn about the history of fencing, fundamental footwork skills, defense and counter-offense, and refereeing skills. Equipment will be provided. Instructor: Richmond Fencing Club.
