Charlotte’s Web is ‘Terrific, Terrific, Terrific’!

Virginia Rep’s production of Charlotte’s Web is fun for the whole family! The production was enjoyed by children in the CK family, ages 12, 10 and 5 and the kids had a marvelous time!

The set was simple, yet intriguing, as it included a huge web where Charlotte would do her work.  The kids were mesmerized by the actors transformed into farm animals.   Although it took a minute, you could see in their eyes that Wilbur wasn’t a man in pink overalls anymore, but a pig, and the grown-ups in tweed and boots were the geese –  A magical moment in the theater.  And during the most difficult parts of the story, like when Wilbur learns he is to be slaughtered or when Charlotte passes, Virginia Rep does a nice job of downplaying those scenes.   This show is designed for kiddies, and although I personally shed a tear, my kids were engaged in watching the rest of the story unfold.

Every character had great stage presence, and although Wilbur and Charlotte were outstanding, Templeton the Rat and the littlest sheep stole the show in our eyes.  This is a production worth seeing with your family before it ends on November 9th!

Never Been to the Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn?
If you have never been to a show at the Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn, it is an easy adventure.  The parking is easy, and the venue is 100% family friendly.  Just after having your ticket scanned at the top of the staircase, kids can say hello to Show Bear and get their photo taken if they wish.  There are tables with coloring and a snack bar available to occupy little ones until the show begins.  The snack bar prices are very reasonable.  One of the biggest surprises about the experience is the opportunity to visit with the actors/characters after the show.  In addition, older children can post their own review on the Junior Critics wall.

Additional Show Details:
The show lasts about 75 minutes with a 10 minute intermission and is best enjoyed by children ages 5+.
