LiveSky: Telescopes.  6:30pm.   Science Museum of Virginia.  Take a grand tour of telescopes past, present and future. Get a peek at the next generation of giant “eyes in the sky” planned for 2018. At 7:30 pm join members of the Richmond Astronomical Society as they share their telescopes for a look into the vastness of space, weather permitting. $5, free for members.

Friday, September 20th – 22nd

Field Day of the Past.  Show grounds located off I-64, Exit #173 (Rockville-Manakin), 14 miles west of Richmond, VA.  Historical displays and exhibits, re-enactments, tractor and truck pulls, small engine displays, arts and crafts, flea market, antique and modern construction equipment demonstrations, a log cabin with ongoing heritage craft demonstrations can be experienced throughout the weekend. Volunteers demonstrate the daily routines of the life of a family surviving in early rural Virginia which include wheat and peanut threshing, meat smoking, the making of sorghum molasses, washing clothes, canning, saw milling and other chores.  Permanent exhibits and structures include a working United States post office, a 1930′s grocery store and garage, fire lookout tower, blacksmith shop, wood wright shop, ice house, gold mining equipment, Pullman railroad car and engine buildings.  Fee.

Glen Allen Day.  9:30am-2:30pm.  Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park.  Festivities kick off with a parade at 9:30am on Mountain   Road.  Activities in the park include children’s activities; participation by several local schools, balloons by Miss Sheri the Clown, petting zoo, airbrush designs, Henrico County Public Library Mobile Library Services; an arts, crafts and business fair; custom and classic car show; and local musicians on two stages.  Rain Date: Sat, Sep 28, 9:30am-2:30pm.  Concessions will be available for purchase.  Free.
